When I saw the new uniforms, the first thing I thought of was "Patterns of Force" [the Nazi episode]....fortunately, upon closer inspection, I saw the emblem on their chests.

I don't like the hats, but the uniforms seem fairly consistent with the last film, and I'm ok with those. But the hats seem like an unnecessary nod to military tradition. I'm of the mind that uniforms should not be such an overt homage. My favorite Federation unis remain the TOS movies from II - VI. I always thought they had a very subtle nod to military tradition while looking completely futuristic.

Looks like they introduced this uniform in the 1st film. Went back to compare Pike's TMP variant against the actual TMP uniforms and noticed the hat-men behind him.

Not as much detail on them before, but I guess you can credit Abrams' team for consistency.

Am I the only one more bothered by the fact that they seem to be more Army inspired then Navy inspired? Starfleet has always been a much more naval organization, using their command structure for instance. Of course that's probably because Gene Roddenberry served in the Navy.

Not great uniforms. Still they're actually not my least favorite design for a Dress Class Uniform. The worst Dress Uniform is still the terrible mini-dresses that they had in TNG.

After such a long history of Star Trek and horrible dress uniforms, I think this is kind of on par, honestly. Who knows, maybe they'll look better on screen. I can't imagine they will be on screen for very long, dress uniforms rarely are.

Oh, almost forgot! Enterprise had some pretty horrible dress uniforms as well!

No matter what the context. It looks stupid today and it looks stupid in the 23rd century for me. I don't like it! ;-)

Chill, folks. We have no idea the context of those uniforms. For all we know it's a disguise.

Xmen First Class was a much better prequel in every way. And it had visual panache!
