Chris Pine on Star Trek and His Career and the New Jack Ryan

Features

By GustavoLeao / 00:20, 22 February 2012 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Adelaide Now caught up with Star Trek XII star Chris Pine while promoting his new film ‘This Means War’. Here are excerpts.

He credits J.J. Abrams' rebooted franchise with reshaping his career: "Pretty much everything has changed since. It has given me more choices - I have gotten to work with two Academy Award winners, for a start."

He is also due to start work on a Jack Ryan movie. Having already survived the pitfalls of playing Captain Kirk, he isn't too concerned about filling the shoes of the famed CIA agent.

"Not to take anything away from Harrison Ford or Alec Baldwin or Ben Affleck, but I don't think Jack Ryan is as iconic as Captain Kirk - who was William Shatner. Jack Ryan has been inhabited now by many different guys - so I am not too nervous.

"The task ahead of us now is to make an international spy movie in the post-9/11 era. It's not going to be a Cold War Jack Ryan."

I think people are banking too much on Pine. I think this latest movie with our boy Hardy proved it's not Pine people love, it's Kirk. I'd rather see a deeper actor play Ryan. Someone like Gosling.
