..is wrong. Look at Abrams' track record. His characters are caricatures. Scotty was, in his eyes, and always will be the comedic relief -- just like Hugo on "Lost" until Abrams' influence was pretty much non-existent and whoever the computer guy on "Alias" was. Also, Uhura will be defined by her support for Spock and not by any other means.
If Mr. Pegg is looking for deeper characters, he'd better look elsewhere... There's nothing from Abrams' entire career that suggests he looks deeply at himself or the world. Rather, he pillages from better stuff and tries to approximate the feel with no artistic success. He's a commercial man with no originality, period.
Scotty was too jokey.

"I would be happy for Star Trek to come along decades later with a new group of minds. I'd love someone to say, 'Besides this one, Gene Roddenberry's was nothing!'" - Gene Roddenberry
"...I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations..." - Gene Roddenberry
Yes, and we are also aware that you worship the divine altar of Abrams and he can do no wrong in your eyes.
True, Abrams destroyed the prime universe, but the intent is to use the original characters, which means, for those with simpler minds, that they shouldn't be so radically different that they are the same character in name only.
But I have to admit, the "we only saw him for 45 minutes and there could be unseen serious moments" is perhaps the dumbest Abrams apology you have had yet. Good work!
Hopefully Abrams will actually learn from his mistakes, because he did not make a perfect film, and will get Scotty right this time.

While I'm admittedly not sold on his Scotty portrayal--I'd have much preferred Paul McGillion in the role--I think Pegg is a brilliant actor who could play pretty a wide variety of roles.
