J.J. Abrams Officially Commits to Directing Star Trek XII, Script Done by the End of the Month, Pre-Production on the Sequel is Underway

Vulture just confirmed that J.J. Abrams has finally committed to shooting Star Trek XII. Here is an excerpt of the article.

Insiders familiar with the director's plans tell Vulture that pre-production is underway, that the script will be done by month's end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter.

Part of the hold-up has been that Alex Kurtzman, who wrote Abrams' first Trek with Roberto “Bob” Orci, has been busy editing and posting Welcome to People, his directing debut at DreamWorks Pictures.

well, well by time he made the announcement the fans have had any news in weeks, it good the script is going to be done & they start shooting by winter.
maybe by Christmas we cans see what the new movie is about hope its not in 3D
glad J.J. is going to direct the thing won't not have any one else do it
