Star Trek V Restoration Campaign Update : Internet Support from Digital Bits and Your Letter to Paramount Pictures

Features

By GustavoLeao / 03:52, 8 June 2010 / General Star Trek

Today, Digital Bits, the internet major DVD and Blu-Ray news site, has expressed their support for our campaign to restore William Shatner's Star Trek V The Final Frontier for a new DVD and Blu-Ray release with remastered FX, and posted an article supporting the campaign. You can read it here. Thanks to Bill Hunt at Digital Bits !

Again, we urge our readers and the Star Trek internet fan base to write to Paramount Pictures and CBS in support of this restoration, which will never occur without your support in light of the film's critical drudding by the mainstream press.

Please send your letters to Paramount Pictures Corporation - 5555 Melrose Ave. - Los Angeles, California, - U.S.A., 90038

Let them know that you supporta restoration of William Shatner's Star Trek V The Final Frontier and that you would support such a film in the marketplace by buying the DVD and Blu-Ray editions.

Please copy and paste the following letter to Paramount or CBS :

           Dear Paramount Pictures

I am writing you to express my support for a restoration special edition Blu-Ray release of your 1989 release Star Trek V The Final Frontier.
As a Star Trek and film fan, I would definitely support such release with my filmgoing dollars.
            Thank you for your consideration,

            Sincerely,

Considering how hated this movie has been for two decades I'm surprised people care about that happens to Final Frontier. Personally, I don't think there's any amount of restoration work that could save it, but that's just me.

Personally, I'd rather see a campaign to get Robert Wise's director's cut of TMP on Blu-Ray (very ticked off that the BD release is the original unfinished theatrical version when they could have easily done a release with both), and also a release of Star Trek II that includes the TV edit alternate footage as a bonus.

What's a letter?

--------

"I do not have a receipt, I won it as a door prize at the "Star Trek" convention, although I find their choice of prize highly illogical as the average Trekker has no use for a medium-sized belt."

What do you mean exactly by "restoration?" I would like to see brand new f/x from start to finish along with Shatner's original ending (scrapped due to budget shortcomings). I'd also like to see some scenes excised (like Uhura's dancing and singing).

Is that the type of thing you're referring to? I'd be happy to write and request that. (If so, you should add elements like that to your form letter above, so Paramount knows EXACTLY what fans want. Otherwise we'll get just a BluRay version of the original film with a few extras on the disc.)
