Boomtown posted a new interview wuth Star Trek Online game executive producer Craig Zinkievich and here are few excerpts.
Between space combat and away mission combat, the prior is undoubtedly the more exciting. What steps are being taken to balance out the latter?
We want to improve every aspect of gameplay, including space combat. Obviously, we and our players are happier with some parts of the game than others, but we don't want anything to sit just because it's "good enough." There's always room for "great."
Will the future see STO aligning more with the Star Trek canon? More non-violent missions, perhaps? Solid exploratory elements?
Bear in mind that Star Trek canon goes in a lot of different directions. The tail end of DS9 featured stories and content very similar to what you see in STO now, for example. And much of the non-canon stories and literature resemble STO to a great degree. But to speak more to your point, we're always looking at ways to incorporate more elements from the Star Trek IP into the game. A great number of fans are very interested in exploration and diplomacy, and we don't want to leave them out.
Ship interiors must be highly sought after. When can we expect to see them and what impact will they have on the game?
We've already got bridges available in-game. We want to get those perfect, and then look into expanding beyond them. Ship interiors themselves are something that will take a lot of time to create, just due to the size of the ships we're talking about. Some of the larger ones are the size of small cities. There's a lot to consider there, but it is something we want to accomplish if we can make it interesting and worth the player's time.
