J.J. Abrams Says He Wants to Make Star Trek XII the Best Movie Possible

Features

By GustavoLeao / 09:31, 5 March 2010 / Star Trek: Nemesis

BBC News posted a new interview with Star Trek director  J.J. Abrams and here are few excerpts;

Regarding Star Trek XII, he said "We are at the beginning stages and a script does not exist yet so it's hard to know. But I would love to work with those actors again," he said.

"I want to do everything I can to make it the best movie possible which might, of course, mean that I shouldn't direct it - so we'll see."

"I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy, horror," he told the BBC regarding Star Trek Oscar nominations, "so as long as the films keep getting made, whatever awards they win or don't win is sort of beside the point."

The full interview is here,

Again, while not a perfect movie at all, compared to Berman and Braga's Trek, this was absolute genius.

It was NOT a bad movie. The TNG movies overall sucked.

The ONLY possible way to redeem himself is if Abrams steps down and let's someone - ANYONE who actually CARES about Star Trek take over. Abrams abomination of a movie is an offense to true Star Trek. Vile, stupid and devoid of any real substance. What a crime that he is still working on Star Trek.

GO BACK TO FELICITY AND STOP RUINING STAR TREK!

The pressure is on | Report this post to moderator

The pressure to meet or top Trek XI is going to be immense because as we can see in this very thread there are Trekkies who would love dearly to see Abrams fail.

Even with that factor taken out of account, following up a revolutionary take on a popular franchise is always difficult. Quantum of Solace raked in the money, but it was still lambasted by many viewers and critics who expected it to be another Casino Royale, for example.

Unfortunately Trek XII is a Kobayashi Maru. It doesn't matter what they do, people will hate it because a) it won't be a novelty anymore, and b) some sci-fi fans are simply hardwired to hate their favorite shows and the people in charge of them after a certain period of time has elapsed. We saw that with TV Star Trek, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek - very few franchises haven't experienced it. Question with Trek is whether it'll be enough to potentially scuttle Trek XIII or any new series. There are actually some factions who seem like they'd be quite happy if that happened. They're probably the same ones who refused to watch TNG back in 1987, too.

Yep. And you should definitely fire Orci and Kurtzman too.

Sci Fi Horror | Report this post to moderator

It's an interesting idea that he could work with a horror element to this film. I think that would really appeal to people. ST II dealt with this a bit too --- the scene with the worm in Chekhov's ear was really disturbing and I don't believe anything like it had been done before. I'd like JJ to push the horror boundaries with Trek 12.
