Rumor Mill : Chris Pine in Talks to Play Captain America ?

Features

By GustavoLeao / 02:08, 13 February 2010 / Star Trek: Nemesis

The upcoming First Avenger Captain America movie is set to go in front of the cameras in June 2010, leaving very little time to cast the lead role of super hero Steve Rogers/Captain America. According to the CinemaSpy website, director Joe Johnston, Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures have a list of actors they are looking at, and they are all between ages of 23 and 32.

According to CinemaSpy, Star Trek movie star Chris Pine is on that list and he's actually the frontrunner to get the part of Steve Rogers/Captain America. Pine is 29-years-old and has some room in his schedule to fit the Captain America shoot in.

Until there is more oficial info about the casting of First Avenger Captain America, consider this story a rumor.

My pick for Cap would Sam Worthington. But it appears he is already busy this year playing Dracula.

Remember you need someone that looks like they could lead guys like Robert Downey Jr, Edward Norton, Sam Jackson (though not officially in the Avengers).

I think guys like Pine, Aaron Eckhart and Worthington would be good choices for Steve Rogers.

Nothing wrong with choosing Pine for that role, though wasn't he rumored to be attached to a different franchise, like Green Lantern or something like that?

Some actors don't like to take roles like that for fear of being typecast, but if it were me, I'd grab every lead role in a franchise I could. The millions I would make for the sequels alone would be more than enough to compensate any "serious" roles.

I would be surprised to see Pine ever win Best Actor, and who cares? He's fine as Kirk, and would make a good Captain America.

I think all superheroes should be played by unknowns. I can't think of one example where an established A list actor made a good superhero movie. Ultimately, you would just see the actor, not the character.

Pine is not an A list actor yet, despite the success of Trek, but he's certainly shown he can handle a big time franchise movie.

With the exception of Ben Affleck, Marvel is pretty good at casting. I would definitely like Pine in that role. Let him bulk up a bit and maybe dye the hair blonde. It would work.

Chris Helmsworth. I thought he was a frontrunner (George Kirk). Being as tall and big as he is I think he would be good. Also Ryan McPartlin (Captain Awesome) from Chuck would be good.
