Ellison and Paramount Settle Lawsuit over Rights of "City on The Edge of Forever"

By GustavoLeao / 20:16, 22 October 2009 / General Star Trek

According to Variety, Harlan Ellison has settled his lawsuit against CBS Paramount over its alleged failure to pay him for the merchandising, publishing and other exploitations of "City on the Edge of Forever," an episode of the original "Star Trek" series that he wrote.

Ellison made the disclosure Thursday in a posting on his website, Harlanellison.com, but did not disclose terms of the settlement.

Ellison posted on his website today, saying "The Star Trek lawsuit is over. I am pleased with the outcome. An ‘agreed-upon statement' will be coming from me and my attorney John Carmichael and CBS/Paramount today or in the next two-three days. It is carefully worded. Wait for it. But, at bottom, three years' litigation is completed. Lordy, I am tired. Smiling at last."

The complete statement will be posted at TrekWeb when it becomes available.

Seriously?

a) Lawyers are two damn expensive to keep it going, and Ellison needs the moolah.
b) Paramount has bigger plans... perhaps as a plot line for a movie? If so, they need to clear all the legal herdles now.

...if he were less of a schmuck.

As it is I wish Paramount had dragged it out another decade or two.
