Recently on the Don Murphy Message Board, Roberto Orci, one half of the dynamic duo that brought us the stories for the first two Transformers movies, confirmed that he and his partner, Alex Kurtzman, will not be scripting Transformers 3.
Orci implied that he and Kurtzman are hard at work on penning a sequel to their re-imagining of the Star Trek movie franchise. Here are a few of his posts at the message board.
Hey Bob.
You'll probably be starting on the Star Trek: Something Something script soon, so I'd like to suggest something!
Don't let Scotty become a caricature. I know he's played by Simon Pegg, but don't just let the character be the wacky, crazy Scottish man that everyone laughs at. Treat his character like a real person. Give us some depth! Simon can do serious, too.
I could kind of say that everyone but Kirk and Spork suffered from not having bits that make us care about them. Like, Bones and Sulu and Scotty and Chekov... can we learn something more about them? I know the first movie focused on the Kirk and Spock's stories, and that was a great decision, but everyone else matters too. Have them be integral (other than getting Kirk onto the Enterprise, Bones doesn't affect the story at all), and let us know some of their backstories. Show us that they have emotions. Look at it like it's an ensemble cast, with just a LITTLE bit more emphasis on Kirk and Spock.
But, I'm not really complaining. You and Alex did an amazing, amazing job on Trek.
Noted. Have no intention of having him be a joke.
Bob, are you and Alex going to be doing this "alone" or will you be sharing credit for story and/or screenplay for the second Trek outing? Maybe you don't know yet as you might just be bantering back and forth about an idea first. Which leads to a second question: any studio stipulations on the second film out of the gate?
We will be sharing story credit with the amazing Damon Lindelof, who Produced the first movie with JJ.
Then Alex and I will write the script.
So Bob, as a Trek Fan, what was your favorite species the federation encountered? I myself am a huge Borg fan, but I gotta love the Klingon's style.
Borg for sure.
How's Trek?
Still a twinkle in our eye...
