Patrick Stewart Says J.J. Abrams Star Trek is an Absolutely Terrific Movie, Denies Picard Cameo in Future Star Trek Movies

By GustavoLeao / 19:32, 5 September 2009 / Star Trek: Nemesis

The Daily Dragon Online posted a report of Star Trek The Next Generation star Patrick Stewart appearance at the DragonCon 2009 convention today. Here are excerpts of the article.

He spoke fondly of the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie,  calling it, "absolutely terrific." But when he considered the notion of having a cameo appearance, he said, "I feel I have left behind a legacy as Jean-Luc Picard that doesn't need adding to."

When asked about the opportunity to work with the legendary Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, Stewart joked, "Can you be legendary and be alive?" On the subject of Nimoy, Stewart said he was, "somewhat in awe of his presence on stage." Stewart was impressed with Nimoy's humor, dignity, and enthusiasm. Stewart then said, "Mr. Shatner, on the other hand." A long paused followed, after which he added, "He's a piece of work, isn't he?"

Stewart also had an opportunity to speak well of his work as Dr. Xavier in the X-Men moviesWhen asked if there might be a future role for Professor X, he said, "I am told that there is," to approving cheers from the crowd.  He added, "the good professor made a brief appearance [in X-Men Origins: Wolverine].  I hear it stopped the show, which is good.  A little bit of humility will do Hugh Jackman good-to realize he isn't the only hunk on the planet."

The full report is here.

STAR TREK COUNTDOWN - The Last TNG Adventure | Report this post to moderator

I really want to see an animated TV movie or DVD mini series based on the STAR TREK COUNTDOWN comic book from IDW. In my opinion, not only it is canon (it was co-written by Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman after all) but it is an incredible story which closes the book on the TNG characters - Captain Data, Ambassador Jean Luc Picard and General Worf. I know it probably will never happen, but I can dream, right ?

I wish, just once, that we got to see the Picard from the television show in a TNG film.

It's as if Picard character for all the movies was based solely on "Starship Mine." It's a shame.

Flavius: What do you call those?

Spock: I call them ears.

Flavius: Are you trying to be funny?

Spock: Never.

Picard is a better captain than Kirk. Shatner couldn't even be bothered to watch the movie.

PS's legacy is not complete with Nemesis as the swan song!

We need one more TNG flick.
