Features

By GustavoLeao / 18:36, 5 July 2009 / Star Trek: Nemesis

According to Airlock Alpha and Box Office Mojo box office estimates for the July 4th weekend, Star Trek is still going strong at the box office with a worldwide gross of $373,9 million.

Star Trek picked up $1.7 million over the weekend, and after eight weeks, finally leaves the top 10. That brings its total to $249.9 million domestically, enough to land it in the top 50 highest-grossing films of all time. "Star Trek" has a lot of staying power, still holding on to a lot of its audience, and only losing about 30 percent at a time.

Star Trek is the third-highest grossing film of 2009 behind "Up" ($264.8 million) and "Revenge of the Fallen." ($293.4 million)

Star Trek likely will fall out of the top 12 next weekend

Probably alot more than Paramount expected for a domestic gross. I had read way back that paramount expected a 40 to 50 million opening weekend and a 175 to 185 million domestic total. They went far beyond it and did what they set out to do, re-energized Star Trek.

ST09 will hang around in the theaters another 8 to 10 weeks, probably generating another 6 to 9 million before it closes. My guess is it ends up around 257-259 million. This is why I love boxofficemojo. I look at how it trended next to Iron Man, and it's easy to get an idea where it will land by the time it ends it's run.

It might have done better in foreign markets if there were better marketing outside the US. Looking at other blogs it was easy to see, by reading what others overseas had to say, that Paramount didn't do the greatest job promoting this film outside the countries they expected to do business in with this movie.

Bring on Star Trek 2011 !!!!
