I don't mean to pick solely on Gustavo here, but I was reading the "On this day in 2007" section of Trekweb where Shatner moans about not knowing anything about "Star Trek XI".

I encourage you guys to read the posts and drink in all the negativity and prejudgement many of you had about this film, simply because of how little we knew that close to production, etc. Especially this little gem:
I wish I could say something about that but the truth is I dont care about Abrams so-called reboot....
Gustavo
Did Abrams change your mind much Gustavo? ;) I guess the moral of this story is this.. don't prejudge a film until you sit down and watch the whole dang thing! That is all. :)

I think it's more than safe to officially say once and for all that the folks who were spelling doom and gloom for this movie from the moment it was first announced can all go suck it.

Personally I am not worried about Star Trek catching up to angels and demons. Its hard for star trek to beat out a religious movie in a world that is sadly still very religious. I am surprised that Star Trek is beating out Terminator, was not expecting that. The fact that this Star Trek movie is doing better than any other Star Trek movie (other than TMP) is very exciting. The success of this movie has indeed solidified a trilogy at least, if not new TV shows as well. Angels and Demons..."pshhh" whatever, Star Trek XI making $335 million worldwide so far...WOW! More than double the budget, I am sure everyone from the set builders to actors, to director, to Paramount big wigs, and shareholders...every one is VERY happy.
The AP reported over the weekend that Angels & Demons, despite not setting the US on fire, is apparently huge overseas and is the #1 film with more than $400M worldwide, Trek has a little ways to catch up.

It's also up to 112 million in foreign markets putting it up to 334 million worldwide. It will probably hold onto the top spot domestically through the second week of July. By then Transformers is in it's 3rd week, and HP6 is just getting going. Many believe UP will pass Star Trek, and it could if it holds up being the only kids movie until Ice Age 3. The third weekend of UP will prove it's staying power.
It's going to be interesting to watch.
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Star Trek been the top grossing movie of 2009 (in the US) since it passed "Aliens vs. Monsters" about 2 weeks ago?
