Ok, again, Shatner did NOT outright nix the idea of a cameo. He was NEVER OFFERED ANY ROLE AT ALL. He was not offered a cameo to nix. Any comment he made about a cameo came well after he was NOT cast in the movie.
Okay, you have been wrong about this from day one. Abrams, Orci and Company DID come up with a scene for Shatner where he could appear in the film, albeit as a hologram and such. This was the only way to do it without subtexting around his character being dead. Leonard Nimoy has confirmed this!
Indeed, in the Access Hollywood interview below, Shatner tells the interviewer what he thought about the cameo that was offered and and I have quoted it exactly:
Quote:
I didn't want it to appear as Shatner coming in for a few frames, that's rediculous... and it holds the movie back and it is the first [scene] that would be cut. We all know that, I mean filmmakers know that. They had to find a way to insert the charcter indiginously into the story, and they couldn't find a way of doing it. Maybe next time.
Billy Bush then interrupts:
"There would be no way of doing justice to the character."
To which Shatner replies with, "Exactly."
Shatner on Access Hollywood
So you see, your implication that (a) Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman AND Nimoy are all lying to the press about the offered cameo and that (b) Shatner never had a cameo to turn down? Is complete BULLSHIT. Thanks for coming.

And again, how anyone can honestly with a straight face say that William Shatner is incapable of playing Kirk, is absolutely laughable.
As for Karmen, the guy is using the old, "careful, he'll tell the truth" defense, before he even makes a crack about Shatner.
What a douchebag.

I caught a couple of episodes of Raw Nerve for the first time yesterday on the Biography Channel. They were doing a marathon and I suddenly get Bio - I didn't used to. Saw most of the Leonard Nimoy show, also Drew Carey and Kelsey Grammer. Interesting show - if you are interested in the guests.

It's not unreasoned bias. It's a fair bias based on a dishonest process in which Abrams used the Shatner name, but not the man, to promote his movie.
Abrams discussing Shatner's appearance in any future Trek simply has no merit. No credibility. Not after what happened here.
The only way I would believe it is if there is actually a headline that says that he signed. Even then, I'd check the pen to make sure it's not invisible ink.

I simply don't have any faith that Abrams will put Shatner in Trek XII. Abrams claimed he was open to it, but he also claimed he tried to get him in this one. It's something I simply won't believe until I see it.

2012 is a fair distance away to get Shatner on Trek 12. In the short term I think it would be cool if Abrams got him to appear with Nimoy in the new season of Fringe. (He could play Walter's brother or something. His Denny Crane routine would be perfect).
