Leonard Nimoy Says He was Pleased that the Spock Role was so Significant

The latest issue of Star Trek Magazine, just out in the US, features a new interview with Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy, who tells the magazine how and why he was tempted back to the role of Spock after 18 years, and why making the new movie has been such a joy. Here is an excerpt of the interview.

"I was pleased and flattered that they had chosen to do a story where Spock was so significant. We had had several projects prior to this where Spock had been marginalized and I wasn't particularly happy about that. I found in this film that Spock comes back into focus in a very wonderful way... I was very comfortable working with J.J. [Abrams] I trusted him completely."

Seeing Nimoy in the new trailer makes me sad... | Report this post to moderator

It really hit me last week after watching the last trailer with spock at the end that it may be the curtain call of Leonard in the franchise. Yes, it may be premature to say that but I cannot help feeling that way. After watching Spock saying that iconic quote, a tear came to my eye. I supposed it does not help knowing that Majel is gone as well. Is it just me that feels like this?

"In the counsels of Government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the Military Industrial Complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."

--Dwight D. Eisenhower Farewell Address, 1961

The over-the-hill Nimoy is the best thing about this movie

I'm sorry guys, but Spock was always cooler than Kirk.

Bring on the colourful metaphors.
