I didn't even know she was ill!?!
Fitting that she's the voice of the computer in the new flick - shame she won't be around when it premieres. :(
very sad news
Majel was a class act....
another pillar of ST passes on...
:(
Her character took on a grace and wonderful complement to Odo on DS9. I just loved her work on that. She was also a very good actress. Sad to see her go.
Does anyone know the exact time? Because today at around 15:00 GMT, I was quizzing my work mates about who had been in every series of Star Trek, even informing them that she had been in Enterprise, but only in one episode (I forgot it was a two parter). I just found out now, 9 hours later that the first lady of Star Trek had died. Suffice to say, she
didn't tend to crop up in conversation all that often.
She will be missed. I look forward to hearing her one last time in May.
Sad news... Rest in peace, Majel...
I'm a bit lost for words. Pretty lady. Funny lady. Majel will be sorely missed... as will Christine, Lwaxana, Lady Morella, and the LCARS' audio interface.

I'm glad she passed the torch (with Leonard Nimoy) in the new film.

"I would be happy for Star Trek to come along decades later with a new group of minds. I'd love someone to say, 'Besides this one, Gene Roddenberry's was nothing!'" - Gene Roddenberry
"...I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations..." - Gene Roddenberry
I'm so sorry to hear about Majel's passing. Long after Gene passed, it was so wonderful seeing interviews in which she carried the flag, so to speak, for Gene in upholding the Star Trek legacy. I got an e-mail from a buddy of mine in which he said that he had gotten the chance to meet her a number of years ago and found her to be such a classy lady.
I hope that J.J. Abrams and company dedicate the new film to Majel's memory. She'll be so sorely missed.
This is so sad. Rest in Peace!
And it is also very strange. I haven't had access to a computer for about 18 hours. I didn't watch TV and didn't read any newspapers. I had no contact to anyone. But when I started my computer this morning, a strange feeling was growing in me. I somewhat knew that I had to visit this site because someone important in the Trekverse had passed. I didn't know who it was. I guessed it could have been the Shat. But when I read that it was Majel I really couldn't believe that I have had this feeling...I don't know what to make of this.
Whatever. My condolences to Rod and everyone who misses her now.
I hadn't read the board all afternoon yesterday because I was doing other things - sat down last night and caught the last half hour of FIRST CONTACT on Universal HD. Anyway - as the credits were rolling my eye caught Majel's name listed as "Majel Barrett" and thought that was odd. I was going to ask you guys about it and then logged on this morning to find this.
I cannot believe she's passed. She's free from suffering now. To me she was Lawaxana. We really saw her flesh out that character completely I thought. I grew really attached to Troi more than Number One or Chapel. (I'm not one that sits around and watched old Trek all the time, really! But the other night I caught the end of the one with Kirsten Dunst and Lawaxana suffering from her lost daughter. She was so good in that ep...amazing!)
She will be missed greatly by us all.
Hope she enjoyed her trip down here.
Great lady.

Every convention I went to she was always gracious and kind. I never heard a bad word out of her. I'm floored.
My mom died from the same in 2001. Terrible way to pass.
Very sorry indeed to hear this news.
Wow I didn't even know she had leukemia.
Rest In Peace.

Rest in peace, Majel. You were part of something wonderful from the beginning, and you leave behind an amazing legacy.
WOW, out of nowhere! I am speechless. Such a noble woman with immeasurable unconditional love for all that is good. She has done so much I would not even know where to begin but aside all else, in the absolute very least, I am happy she has moved on knowing that the wondrous and noble universe her husband created will live on.
She and her husband are testaments to a world they dreamed up, we all aspire to, and will one day exist.
Be assured all Trekkies and Trekkers thoughts are with the family.
A sad day for Trek fans everywhere.
At least there is some comfort to know that she's reuniting with her husband in heaven after 15 or so years.
WOW, I just can't believe it.
Thank you for all the great memories. A piece of my childhood is gone. I'm glad she was able to finish her role in Trek XI.
Say hi to Gene for us.
Sad day indeed...

TREY PARKER: And it comes from an honest belief we have, which is... George Bush doesn't know what's going on. Michael Moore does not know what's going on. And Alec Baldwin definitely does not know what's going on. Basically, this shit is gigantically complicated.
A very very sad new. The old world trekkie is disappearing...worse than ever we are.
Time,the terrible foe.
I have always had a lot of respect for Majel Barrett Roddenberry, and am very saddened by this news. From Number One to the computer voice to Christine Chapel and on to M'ress and Luwaxana Troi, as well as Lincoln Enterprises and other ventures, Ms. Roddenberry has always been a vital member of the Trek family.
Some years back, I was trying to track down some information regarding the old Star Trek newspaper strips from the L.A. Times and TV21 magazine, for an article I was putting together for Star Trek Communicator. Unable to find the data I needed, I put out a feeler to the Roddenberry estate, and to my surprise, Majel herself got back to me with an answer, which I thought was extremely nice of her, given that old comic strips were probably not a subject foremost on her mind. That was the only contact I ever had with her, but it stayed with me because she was so friendly and gracious in offering her assistance.

First: Please proofread! You have "he" instead of "she" in several spots.
I can't believe she passed away, I thought she'd be around much more longer. She was such a big supporter of Star Trek and Gene's legacy. Remember when she hosted a behind-the-scenes show on the Sci-Fi channel for Voyager in 1995? She was awesome.
Well, Nurse Chapel will always live on.
I am extremely saddened to hear this. Majel might not have been as highly recognizable as Shatner and Nimoy, but she was such a solid presence in Star Trek from being the voice of the computer to Troi's overbearing mother. There is a LARGE hole in Star Trek today.
