Press Release

You Can Only See It on Howard TV:   Beam Him Up:  William Shatner Talks with Howard Stern About His Current Television Projects, His Ongoing Feud with George Takei and the Upcoming "Star Trek" Movie

Actor William Shatner stops by the Howard Stern studio; home of Howard TV On Demand to talk with Howard and the crew for a candid and comical appearance about his television career.  Howard begins the interview by grilling Shatner about his wealth to which Shatner jokes, "I'm worthless.  My self-image is so bad that I came on here and [Robin] said I'm not great and I agree with her."  When asked if he was offered a cameo in the new "Star Trek" movie by director J.J. Abrams, Shatner expresses his disappointment about not being included.

Referring to the recent revelations about bad blood between him and former "Star Trek" co-star George Takei (who often appears on "The Howard Stern Show" as a guest announcer), Stern asks Shatner to confirm whether he was invited to Takei's recent wedding and Shatner replied, "Not to my knowledge."  When Stern plays a recent clip of Takei saying Shatner's stability is called into question, Shatner jokingly agrees with him.  Shatner hinted at reconciliation, possibly inviting Takei to appear on new his show, "Shatner's Raw Nerve." He sums up his philosophy by saying, "When you leave this life, wouldn't it be better not to have any animus anywhere?"

This episode can only be seen on Howard TV On Demand, starting today, December 11, 2008.  For more information about Howard TV On Demand and its availability, check out http://www.howardtv.com/

UPDATED : TrekMovie.com posted a few excerpts of the interview with Stern

Howard Stern: J.J. Adams claims they offered you a cameo in the new "Star Trek."

William Shatner: I know he does.

Robin Quivers: They didn't offer you anything?

Shatner: No. J. J. has got to be a wonderful guy and he's a great...

Interupted by Stern:

Stern: I know J. J.

Shatner: Do you?

Stern: He's a really good guy. He was very good to my kids.

Shatner: How's that?

Stern: J . J . used to write for a show called "Felicity." My daughters loved it. We went to California and we were hanging out and he said he'd put them on the show. They sat in the background of a scene. It was very exciting.

Shatner: If that's what it took, I'd have put his kids on "Boston Legal." (they all laugh)

Stern jokes: You know what J. J. said; he said he wants to give you free tickets to the "Star Trek"opening.

Shatner jokes: "That's greaaaaaaaaaaat"!...

Shatner is still lucid and could easily do some basic running around as Kirk.

No one ever really just comes out and says it's because he's let himself turn into a pumpkin head.

If that egomaniac would drop 30 pounds, trust me, he would've been in the movie.

I'm making an uninformed but educated guess that the producers of the new Trek movie doesn't want people to be looking at slim Chris Pine and bloated Shatner in the same movie.

Because people will be like "Wow... he sure grows up to look like shit".

If you're a diehard and want Shatner in the movie regardless of the condition he is, then it's just because you like Shatner. You're not thinking about the good of the movie.

It's like Spiner having the balls to show up in Nemesis after apparently eating a truckload of white bread products.

It didn't make sense.

Now Spiner lost weight and they can slap makeup on his wrinkles and he'd be completely passable as Data.

But they had to go and screw up the last movie and damage their chances.

Now Sirtis has hit the wall at Mach 3 and she'll have to wear the Data makeup too.

Everyone wants Shatner back in Trek. They want to bring back the hero. Everyone keep saying they are tired of hearing Shatner saying that he is not the movie. WELL...everyone keeps asking him. Therefore it shows that there is great interest in getting him back into Trek.

Reed: What do you think of T'Pol, hmm? Do you think she's pretty? I think she's pretty.

Trip: Oh, God.

Reed: You ever noticed her bum?

Trip: What?

Reed: Her bum. She's got an awfully nice bum.

Trip: To Subcommander T'Pol. (toast)

Reed: Awfully nice.

I'm getting so tired of hearing this....

And it's not even that Shatner is beating a dead horse, it's just that people keep asking him about it. God.. even the Takei stuff is starting to become irritating.

Enough is now excessive | Report this post to moderator
By: zak (Odo's file, contact) @ 12:14:30 on Dec 11, 2008

I don't know when I've ever been so sick of hearing something as I am that Shatner is disappointed not to have been ..... I loved Shatner as Kirk and he's cool in lots of other ways; but please; I'd rather not ever hear again that he's even said ONE MORE TIME that he's disappointed not to have been ... Enough here is excessive, obviously. And what does all that accomplish anyway...not much positive (and this guy has indeed done positive things for the new ST film - but not this ragging on every opportunity that comes up - my opinion anyway). Maybe people love to hear him say it. Not me.
