Excellent!!!
Can't wait to see it!
In Smith's defense, he didn't really compare the movie to TWOK, he just said he enjoyed it the most since TWOK.

I think "refresh" is more along of what they're trying to say.
Or like rebooting your PC to fully integrate upgrades and fixes. It's still your computer, still familiar, but now it has some new features and looks a little different. Maybe even a little more fun.
Chill out till May, folks. It's just a movie.

Everyone knows that Smith is a huge Star Wars fans. He admits to not being that big a Trek fan. For him to say it is a reboot means that someone is again lying about the film. They say it is a reboot then they say it is not. They say Shatner was trying to be worked in then they say they had not intention. So basically what the hell is the truth? Is it that hard to tell everyone the truth?
All this praise from the insiders about the film doesn't mean anything. Do people really think that Smith was going to trash the film? Do people really think that the Paramount executives that funded the largest Trek budget in history of $150 million dollars were going to say "oh my its sucks ass?" Give me a break.
What we really need here to settle all the lies is a bunch of fans to see the film and get their opinion. Having Smith tell me it is like TWOK means nothing. It doesn't encourage or discourage my decision about the film.
If JJ and company spent all this Hype energy on creative story telling - we may have a good movie
but constantly self (or close to self) proclaiming how great your own movie will be is getting old
reboot nota reboot, no shat, we tried shat,
How about getting a real scifi writer involved - forget shoehorning into existing cannon by simply avoiding it and doing something new - like they did every week on TOS
this smell more like style over substance and the hype machine smells like TDK where the viewing public was programmed to like the movie before they saw it
The guy gives one of the more candid interviews around, and you guys are picking apart his choice of words and vocabulary? TYPICAL.
Calm down, he is not being paid a cent for this. He is one of J.J.'s buddies and got to screen the film early -- don't be bitter because you can't say the same.

My film Normal Heights is in: Pre-production (script)
So despite Abrams and the writers' claims that this is an in-canon prequel, we now have Kevin Smith saying it's a reboot. That is NOT the same thing. If it's a reboot, then as far as I'm concerned all cards are on the table in terms of style and everything else, and more power to them. That's the way to go otherwise you'll have been abandoning the film or even condemning it because it doesn't look like TOS. A fresh start, OTOH, should go over better.

Ah... another "he said... she said... they talk" news. ;-)
But didn't we have that Khan-comparsion before somewhere?
How much money do they get for talking like this?
