The latest issue of Starlog magazine, out in the U.S., features a new interview with Star Trek actor Simon Pegg, the new Scotty. Here is an excerpt from the article.
Pegg has also been able to parlay his success as a newfound genre icon into appearances on the newly revived DOCTOR WHO and as Scotty in J.J. Abrams' upcoming STAR TREK film.
"I'm mopping up the geek touchstones!" he jokes. "Maybe if the [live-action] STAR WARS TV series goes ahead, I might try and wheedle my way back into the affections of Lucasfilm and write an episode."
"The weird thing--and I think this goes for both STAR TREK and DOCTOR WHO--is that neither of them are remakes. I often see STAR TREK being referred to as a remake, and it really isn't. It's another STAR TREK film; it's another movie in the series. It's the continuing mission."
"DOCTOR WHO is like that as well. And because of the nature of how DOCTOR WHO evolves, you become part of that tradition rather than a re-handling of it."
"Both of those are perfect examples of taking the spirit of the [original material] and entirely maintaining it."
More from Pegg can be found here.
