The latest issue of Star Trek Magazine, just out in the U.S., features a new interview with actress Zoe Saldana, who plays the new Uhura in J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. Here is a few excerpts, courtesy of TrekMovie.
"[J.J.] understand that he's making a movie for the fans primarily." she told the magazine "We always felt that as well. We always treated everything with so much respect. "Ok, how is this done?" There were things that were very appointed that we should not be tampering with and I needed to know specific details. Anyone like me can go and see this movie and be blown away regardless, because they're starting from the moment they walk in the theater. But for the fans, we're picking up where others left off. We needed to know how to do things in a way that won't change their history of Star Trek."
"Of course, I always knew about Star Trek, but I never got into it when I was younger. But now I enjoy it so much. I didn't want to watch episodes of the show [before we filmed the movie] because I was afraid of getting into a habit. I was stepping into the shoes of someone who already existed. Nichelle [Nichols] did such a wonderful job. I wanted to pick all the special things that will remind the fans of her."
More from Saldana on Star Trek and Uhura can be found at TrekMovie.
