Simon Pegg on Star Trek Movie Secrecy and Playing Scotty

Features

By GustavoLeao / 03:46, 20 August 2008 / Feature Films

The latest issue of Total Film magazine, just out in the UK, features an interview with actor Simon Pegg, the new Scotty in J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. Here are few excerpts of the interview, courtesy of Sci Fi Pulse.

When asked about the new movie tha actor laughed and said "I have a Paramount bomb injected into my neck so if I mention anything to do with it, it will explode!" he chuckles. "I've never been on any film that's so secretive. I had to travel to set in a covered golf buggy wearing a cloak so you couldn't see my uniform. Somebody got a shot of Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock, so after that it was just lockdown."

Many fans have been concerned about how the actor will portray Scotty and Pegg is very keen to address these fan concerns.

"I think people are worried I'm going to undermine the franchise by being outwardly comic, but I hope I can put their minds at rest and tell them I'm approaching it with complete and utter dedication to the original."

More from Pegg can be found at Sci Fi Pulse.

Oh, sure, that's probably just a sneaky way to obfuscate how ST:XI introduces cloaked golf-buggies as an early mode of Starfleet transportation.

One step ahead of you...

Nice try, Pegg.

I think half of Scotty's screen time was as the comic relief, ESPECIALLY later. He's funny. Sure, he had a lot of time as the concerned, hawkish senior officer, but I think people enjoyed the Trouble With Tribbles Scotty best. I wasn't worried about Pegg making him funny. His role in MI3 showed that he could do the concerned-techy thing.
