Mr. Kim, who plays the time-traveling tough guy Jin on "Lost," has been the first actor cast in a coming remake of the crime drama "Hawaii Five-O," The Hollywood Reporter said. He has been cast as Chin Ho Kelly, a detective played by Kam Fong in the original series, which began in 1968. The "Hawaii Five-O" revival is being developed by the screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci ("Star Trek," "Fringe") and Peter Lenkov, an executive producer of "CSI: NY."

The Star Trek legend was saddened to hear of Mentell's passing - as he's convinced the actor was destined for a glittering career. To celebrate the upcoming release of Part 3 of the fan production Star Trek Of Gods and Men tomorrow June 15th, TrekWeb brings to you this exclusive interview with Of Gods and Men writers Jack Trevino and Ethan H. Calk (pictured here on the bridge set with director Tim Russ and producer Sky Conway).
1- What can fans expect from Part 3 of Of Gods and Men?
EHC: As part 2 ended, Chekov (Khitrec), Uhura and Harriman were about to be executed. I'm sure most fans assume they'll get out of this somehow, but what happens at the beginning of Part 3 should surprise everyone. Even Trek writers Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, who read our early draft, said "wow, we didn't see that coming at all!" There are also some incredible space battles thanks to our great effects team, some loyalties that are tested, some tender moments and some new friendships. We think Part 3 is the best of all the parts (though OGaM is really one single story, just broken up into 3 parts for the web).
JT: As Ethan indicated we saved the best for last. In the final act, we set our sites on providing non-stop action, with our heroes fighting on solid ground, as well as in outer space. We hope it's the type of grand finale' the fans the have asked for over the last years.
2- Will we see more familiar faces in Part 3? What can you tell us about the characters played by Grace Lee Whitney and Herbert Jefferson Jr?
EHC: Grace Lee Whitney (an incredibly nice lady!) will be reprising her TOS role as Janice Rand. Herbert Jefferson Jr. is portraying a Captain in Khitrec's rebel fleet.
JT: Can't say enough about how great it was to have Grace Lee back as Rand. And Herb Jefferson as Galt - he was perfect. BTW, watch his performance closely for a salute he worked in for his fellow original Battlestar Galactica stars.
3- I understand that there are lots of cameos from Trek actors in Part 3 such as Arlene Martel, Jack Donner, Tania Lemani and Celeste Yarnall, right?
EHC: That is correct. Though they are not named in the movie, some of them could be reprising their roles from their TOS episodes - you'll have to wait and see.
JT: Their willingness to return is not only a tribute, but also an indication of the respect and affection they hold for Star Trek - and especially its fans.
4- Part 3 has any pivotal special effects scenes? Will we see new starships in Part 3?
EHC: Yes, as I said above, there are some really cool space battles, and definitely one new ship. Let's just say when Khitrec's rebels and the Galactic Order finally meet, they don't just bring one ship each... J
JT: Early on, there was some criticism of the effects...however, you can forget about any such comments here. The effects are top notch and rival anything seen on television or in the movies - a testament to the SFX team and their dedication to deliver dazzling effects.
5- Here is a question I asked Hidden Frontier producer Rob Caves and I want to ask you too. The production values on Of Gods and Men are very high state-of-the-art special effects, good acting and directing, beautiful musical scores. Still a lot of fans have a prejudice against fan films. Do you know why?
EHC: I'm not really sure. Is it that they don't accept anything without the official Paramount blessing? Or are they that critical about Paramount's productions, but now have the means to voice their opinions (i.e. blogs, boards, etc.) more than in the past. Of course, you'll never be able to please everyone, and we're thrilled at all the positive comments we've received (which, incidentally, outweigh the negative ones by a long shot)
JT: Don't really know myself. I recall reading comments made by people who had never seen a particular fan film in question, but somehow, they were positive it was going to suck. I also recall reading comments by people who had reservations about viewing such productions and who had decided to give them a try and found they were pleasantly surprised. I guess all we can ask for those that have reservations is that you give OGaM a try. Who knows, maybe you'll enjoy it.
6- Finally, beyond Of Gods and Men and Farragut, The Animated Episodes, what are your future projects?
EHC: I wrote a script for Jeff Collinsworth's (Captain Lord Bat to those familiar with the Trek boards) fan film Star Trek: Mirrorverse "He Who Draws the Sword," which is in pre-production. I'm also working together with OGaM co-writers Jack Trevino and Sky Conway on another project, but I can't give any details at the moment...
JT: The animated Farragut episode I penned with Michael Struck is due out later this year and as Ethan mentioned, the three of us from OGaM are currently sorting out what we hope to be the next big sci-fi series.
