New Spy Photos from the Set of Star Trek Movie - Minor Spoilers

Features

By GustavoLeao / 14:38, 30 May 2008 / Feature Films

JoBlo.com posted new exclusive spy photos from the set of J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie.

According to the site "These are some pics from the set of Starfleet Academy. The location is California State University of Northridge and the school library is being used as a... well, school. This shows some nice costumes and art design. During filming, all the extras run over to the right side of the field, to the blue screen and point, as if something big crashes."

You can find the photos here.

Arrowheads? A bit early me thinks... | Report this post to moderator

Quote:
Starfleet Academy was founded in 2161. That's pre-TOS (~2266-2269). Use of the delta arrowhead for Academy insignia is canon.

Actually, that's incorrect. Anyone who has seen an episode of TOS knows that each ship in Starfleet had it's own shape of symbol for use on the uniform and other applications.

Indeed, when Starfleet situations (like court martials or hearings) were shown in TOS the symbol on the walls were NOT the delta arrowhead, but the "boomerang" shape that's seen on both sides of NCC-1701's hull, likely making it universal Starfleet symbol of the time. [See Image below]

It wasn't until after TOS but before TMP (2269-71), that the delta arrowhead symbol of the USS Enteprise was adopted for all of Starfleet. 'Canon' says this was a way of honoring the crew as being the only ship to return from it's five-year mission...or something to that effect.

This means the Starfleet logos that Trexx chose to show were from a more modern era, therefore giving a ligitamate argument as to why arrowhead deltas would be hanging from lightposts at the Academy in the new film..

... unless this scene was depicting a ceremony for new cadets destined for the Enterprise only :)

It doesn't look like a Star Trek film. Nothing is futuristic.

A few observations | Report this post to moderator

Looks good.. I see the women all wear mini skirts and boots. Kind of a throwback to the 60s. The colors of the starfleet uniforms kind of surprise me. I was thinking they would have different colors for years, areas of study, etc. but everyone is wearing that "dusty rose" color. Also the uniforms are kind of ill fitting, in my opinion. Nobody really looks comfortable wearing them.

That spaceship/pod thing is interesting. I noticed it actually has a license plate.. so it IS a motorized vehicle, not just a prop. I wonder why... are there street scenes with this thing? I mean if its just cruising around campus, why would they need a license plate? I guess the law is the law.

It's time to separate the weak from the chafed, the men from the boys, the awkwardly feminine from the possibly Canadian.
