The Daily Record just posted a brief interview with actor Anton Yelchin, the new Pavel Chekov. Here are few excerpts. Beware of minor spoilers.
Q - Now you're playing the young Chekov in the New Star Trek movie. Were you a Trekkie beforehand?
A- I'm 19 so I didn't grow up with it but I watched it for the film. It's so perfectly cheesy and that's what works.
Their planet caves look like they were made out of foam and the computers are the size of a room but Spock still says, "Oh, this is definitely advanced technology". It's really a fun show.
Chekov doesn't go to any planets in this one but I've hanging out with aliens on the Enterprise and it's fun to sit on the bridge screaming about Romulans.
Q - You actually met Walter Koenig during filming - did he give you tips?
A - He was on set and I talked to him for a while but I was really nervous. I thought he might say I suck. But he was really gracious and happy about what we were doing.
The full interview is here.
