William Shatner Deeply Regrets Not Being in the New Star Trek Movie

Features

By GustavoLeao / 17:54, 15 May 2008 / Feature Films

Star Trek star William Shatner was the guest on the Opie and Anthony show this morning promoting his new book Up Till Now. Here are few excerpts of the interview, cortesy of TrekMovie.

Question: And JJ Abrams, he wants you in the new Star Trek movie. What is going on with that?

Shatner:
I don't know. It's the weirdest thing. They are making another Star Trek movie, as the young versions and they...I guess they couldn't solve the writing problem about how to bring back the dead captain to the live captain to the young captain. It is complicated I will admit. So I am not in the movie to my deep regret. But Abrams is such a good movie maker, I am sure he will do something wonderful.

Question: They couldn't have you as like as his dad?

Shatner:
Ya you would think, or a disembodied voice, but I guess not.

More excerpts and the full audio interview (plus a video interview for Fox's The O'Reilly Factor) can be found at TrekMovie.

Bill, if you want to do a disembodied voice, how about a opening monologue...?

How can you deeply regret a decision you didn't make?

And as I recall he said he wouldn't accept a cameo, which is what showing up as Kirk's dad or a disembodied voice amounts to.

I preface this by saying, I really don't care if he is in the movie... | Report this post to moderator

Anyone else under the impression that Shatner is trying too hard to prove that he is not in this movie? Every time we hear from him; he is bitching.

Perhaps he is just whining. However, perhaps, TPTB want us all to think that he will not be in the movie so we are surprised when he shows up at the beginning or the end of the movie. Now, let me be the first to say that I really couldn't care less. The movie will stand or fall even if we don't see a 90 year old Captain Kirk. I do think that if they are going for the surprise factor; they are doing an excellent job.

Didn't Shatner, just a couple of weeks ago actually said he didn't want just a cameo in the movie? And now he's agreeing with the guy about playing Kirk's dad or being a disembodied voice? Remember rule of acquisition 60 Shat, keep your lie consistent. :P
