New Voyages Spock, Actor Jeff Quinn, to Appear in New Star Trek Movie

Features

By GustavoLeao / 08:16, 30 March 2008 / Feature Films

According to TrekMovie.com, actor Jeff Quinn, who played the role of Mr. Spock in the fan production series Star Trek New Voyages (now titled Star Trek Phase II) will appear, like Kirk actor James Cawley, in a cameo in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek prequel movie.

According to TrekMovie, like Cawley , Quinn's is a non-speaking part, but he did say that he is "front and center" in a couple of shots. Quinn couldn't give any details on his role, but the partially shaved eyebrows might be a clue.

"it was an honor and a privilege to work on J.J. Abrams' Star Trek." he said.

People have such short memories | Report this post to moderator

The negative reaction I'm seeing to this is one of the funniest things to hit the net in a long time.

I take it everyone here is too young to remember the production of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which gave cameo appearances to dozens of fans and friends, not the least of which included Bjo Trimble, who was the uber-fan who helped keep Star Trek alive ... much like, well, guys like Cawley and Quinn have been doing.

You people bitch about how Paramount is pissing on the fans all the time, yet when they are basically paying tribute to the fans in this way -- and it's frankly a bloody miracle they haven't shut down Phase 2 and all the other web productions, too -- they get knocked for it.

Now when they start doing things like casting fans in major roles, then OK, you have leave to bitch about it. But for now all I see is an effort to give a nod to the fans. What's wrong with that?

Who is the casting director on this thing? | Report this post to moderator

WOW, how bad is the acting in this movie going to have? Ranging from unknown actors to internet fan actors. This is JJ Abram's trademark. He loads his movies with tons of actors that he thinks has appeal to the general public. Too bad they're not famous like Clint Eastwood, Russell Crowe or Tom Hank type caliber. The new Star Trek movie looks and feels like a very badly put together piece of crap like MI3 was. The delay of the release date and the need to revise the script tells me all that I need to know. Good thing I got Wolverine and Watchmen that I can go to the theater for because those two movies and Star Trek are opening within weeks of each other.

Rest in peace Star Trek. Not even the second coming of Christ can save it now.

It's depressing that they can find a role for people like this guy and James Cawley, but they can't find anything for William Shatner to do.

Maybe J.J....er....Mr Abrams should give cameo roles to me and Steve, since TrekWeb is doing such a positive coverage of his movie, right ?

Right. We just won't tell Mr. Abrams about the Shatner flame war from a few months ago ;)
