Features

By GustavoLeao / 12:05, 19 February 2008 / Feature Films

GearLog posted this photo of the Playmates prototype toy of a phaser from J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek prequel movie, show at New York Toy Fair 2008.

The original report can be found here.

UPDATE : TrekMovie.com reported that this photo is really from a Master Replicas ‘Assault Phaser.' from Star Trek V and Star Trek VI, and not from J.J. Abrams movie (as a lot of TrekWeb users indeed posted in the talkback).

Trekweb gets caught with it's pants down....again | Report this post to moderator
By: jamesrkirk (Odo's file, contact) @ 19:19:03 on Feb 19, 2008

I am amazed that Trekweb didn't realize that it was a Phaser from Trek VI. Makes you wonder how much more of the "news" that they pass on is really just rumor. I use to come to Trekweb to get my daily fix of Trek related happenings, but in the last year or so the site has slipped, badly. Best bet on the web now is Trekmovie.com folled by Trektoday.com

This is a nice phaser, possibly the best of the bunch, but I have always liked the Type II Phaser with a Type I phaser in the top of it.

Maybe not the one from JJA's Trek... But it's the best designed handphaser ever! ;-)

Corgi/Master Replicas have had plans for a long time to produce a ST V/VI "assault phaser." That's the phaser shown in the photo. Abrams would not use the identical phaser used in ST V & VI. Even the caption under the tricorder photo is incorrect, labeling it a "communicator!" Chances are the phaser for the movie will more closely resemble the TOS phaser.

That is the phaser used in Star Trek 5 & 6. This looks to be a prototype of Master Replicas version due out this year. Master replicas is also coming out the TNG Mark IV tricorder for those of you who are interested. Have a nice day :)

Looks Like Phaser From Trek V / VI | Report this post to moderator
By: TonyDP (Odo's file, contact) @ 12:21:20 on Feb 19, 2008 | Edit History (2)

I'm pretty sure this is from Trek V as the page referenced in the original story is from the Corgi / Master Replicas preview (they even have a picture of their TNG Tricorder) and they still haven't announced any Trek 11 tie-ins. Somebody at that site just got their titles confused.

Check out this pic of the Trek V phaser for comparison:

It doesn't have the pointed tip! JJ doesn't respect canon! Boycott the movie!
