William Shatner Disappointed But Not Upset About Not Being in Star Trek XI

Features

By GustavoLeao / 16:02, 23 July 2007 / Feature Films

In his latest Shatnervision video interview, Star Trek star William Shatner responds to the comments and tabloid reports that he is "furious" at the Star Trek XI producers about not being in the movie. (story)

Shatner revealed that he has ‘known for a while' that he will not be in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek XI movie, and that he in fact called Abrams after the recent rumors were published in the tabloids to tell him he wasn't upset. But Shatner did admit to being 'sad' and ‘disappointed' about not being in the movie. He also said that he is not lobbying for a part in Trek XI

WE NEED SHAT | Report this post to moderator

one word for you if you want the shat.
...Q
Or if he were to get in better shape you could have a black screen saying one thing - "ONE YEAR BEFORE GENERATIONS" or a star date before generations. If harrison ford can still be Indy then shat can be Kirk. Think about it. There are so many options for a kirk character (more if he were in better shape). If guinan can have an echo then Kirk can in the Nexus, but no hologram, a cameo won't do. Also, some may fail to realize that he has become so endowed in the kirk character that i do not really think that any other person could adequately play kirk. A creative writer can get it done. The people who cut the checks know that shatner and nimoy bring in the cash - not just one of them.

Move On! No Shatner! No Nimoy! | Report this post to moderator
By: sirbroiler (Odo's file, contact) @ 18:03:05 on Jul 24, 2007

All of these whiny Trek fans need to grow up and move on. Shatner and Nimoy had their chances. If Shatner were so committed to Trek and it's future, he would have demanded a better story-line for Kirk in Generations or not done the movie at all. Now, after cashing his Generations paycheck, he wants more for Kirk. You think it's because he wants what's best for the franchise? Hell no! He wants to be able to write more books, keep his Kirk alive for ever - so he can MAKE MONEY.

No doubt, Enterprise was a bad move, even though I personally thought it was headed down the right track just as it was cancelled. But it's time for a great creative mind (Yes, J.J. is a great creative mind) to put his stamp on Star Trek, and take it to a place existing fans can embrace, and new fans can adopt. And that means a new Kirk, a new Spock and No Shatner/Nimoy.

Reinvention can be a blessing. Look at Galactica. Look at Batman Begins. It can work people. Give J.J. a chance - and don't chain him to the relics that will only bog down Trek - just like they did in Generations. A complete disaster in my book.

Respect? | Report this post to moderator

If you guys actually "respected" the character of Kirk, you wouldn't wheel the bloated, elderly, overexposed William Shatner out to the studio, prop him up in front of a camera and destroy canon. Let my last images of him be as a hero who looks believable. Not Denny Crane in a tunic... talk about gimmicks.

I'm fine with the idea of no Shatner in this movie. Hell, I'd prefer not to have Nimoy either, and just let the new guys shine without any past actors in it.
Of course, regardless of what happens, I know I'll be there on opening day.

Mark my words...He WILL | Report this post to moderator

Mark my words..the SHAT will be in this movie. I don't care what they are saying, it would just go against everything about 'buzz' that there is....

Shatner is on TV. He may win yet another Emmy. He is the most popular thing ever, EVER, to come out of TREk...and he is alive and kicking. They MUST know that Shatner/Nimoy will not be around forever. This is their chacne to get these two back together one more time...if they can't see this simple reasoning then they are dumb...

So...I don't think JJ is dumb. Shatner will be in this movie. Either vocally...Hologram...post-GEN...it doesn't matter how...HE will be in this movie, and I am pretty sure the bean counters at Paramount will make sure that he is...

Kirk deserve a better ending than Berman gave him (this is frustrating | Report this post to moderator

What a waste it is going to be if tptb are doing a TOS film + do not include Shatner as Kirk.

No major character has ever had a worse ending that Kirk.

This is the chance to right the wrongs of Generations and give Kirk the dignity he deserves.

Shatner is the only thing cool about ST these days and the producers in their infinite wisdom are doing everything they can to keep him out of the film.

If Shatner is not in the film as a post Generations Kirk, I hope it tanks
