The premise has drawn early comparisons to "House" and "Bones."

Sep 05 | Moon, Duncan Jones’ poignant and thought-provoking psychodrama about a lonely lunar miner, won the 2010 Hugo Award for best sci-fi movie.The award, technically titled “best dramatic presentation, long form,” honored screenplay writer Nathan Parker as well as Jones, who came up with the story and directed the movie. The indie movie, Jones’ feature debut, bested big-budget competitors like Avatar, Star Trek, Up and District 9.
Sep 02 | Manchester Starfleet is a UK based Star Trek fan club. They recently turned one year young and proudly announced the registration of their 200th member. In the wake of Star Trek XI (2009), Manchester Starfleet was reborn. One year on and they already have 2 Trek conventions under their belt with the 3rd in October 2010 being their biggest yet. The member's discussion forum is always very busy and they have an online store with club t-shirts and other trek-related merchandise in the making. Sep 01 | George Takei will have a cameo in the new season of The Big Bang Theory. TV Squad reports that the former Star Trek actor will appear in an episode alongside guest star Katee Sackhoff. The show's executive producer Bill Prady suggested that Takei and Sackhoff will play different sides of Wolowitz's conscience as he considers reuniting with his ex-girlfriend Bernadette (Melissa Rauchberg).He explained: "George Takei plays himself, and he's the other person guiding Wolowitz in his thoughts as he tries to figure out what to do about Bernadette."

TokyoPop editor Luis Reyes is working on the first sanctioned Star Trek manga, "Shinsei Shinsei," and says he's worried that TOS purists won't approve of highly stylized interpretations of the famous characters.
"I'm a fan," Reyes said at Comic-Con, but the manga-ka was warned by Star Trek executives, "Those fans will kill you."
CBS Consumer Products Executive Paula Block is said to have helped keep the fresh manga in line with fan expectations, insisting that Reyes eliminate beads of sweat drawn on Captain Kirk.
"It's okay with Scotty, but Kirk wouldn't have freaked out like that."
Block was party to a panel discussion titled Star Trek: Year 41 and Counting. "Contrary to some people's opinions, Star Trek isn't dead," she proclaimed. Speaking about Bethesda's upcoming games, Block said, "If you just want a good starship shoot-em-up you get Star Trek: Battlesations; if you want a good story you can have Star Trek: Legacy."
Block also mentioned that CBS Paramount shall handle all licensing for Star Trek XI.

Who could blame him? Hell, I'm one of those 'fans' and they often freak me out. 'Trekkies' is a horror-movie in my house. :)
But, I also find it telling (and oh-so-appropriate) that TOS was the one the Manga was made for. Anyone that tries to insinuate that any of the sequel shows are anywhere close to the pop-cultural 'iconic' status of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and TOS, is simply dilluting themselves.
