TV Shows on DVD reports that CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment have officially confirmed the November 21, 2006, release date of the Star Trek: The Animated Series DVD.

The classic series, formerly known as The Animated Adventures of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek, originally aired on NBC, Saturday mornings in 1973-74. It won a Daytime Emmy in 1975 for Outstanding Children's Series. TAS is the last of the Star Trek catalog to make it to DVD.

The four-disc boxed set is comprised of all 22 half-hour episodes, including the Emmy Award-inspiring "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth." Also Walter Koenig's "The Infinite Vulcan," which was the first episode written by a Star Trek cast member. A number of episodes serve as sequels to The Original Series, and many were written by veterans of the live-action TV show, such as D.C. Fontana and David Gerrold.

Confirmed special features include:

  • "Drawn to the Final Frontier - The Making of Star Trek: The Animated Series"
  • "What's the Star Trek Connection?" featurette.
  • Photo Gallery
  • Show History
  • Wallpaper
  • AIM Icons
  • Text Commentaries by Denise and Michael Okuda ("Yesteryear," "The Eye of the Beholder," "The Counter-Clock Incident")

The set is presented in its original full screen, with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, English Mono, and Spanish Mono tracks.

Suggested retail price is US$35.

That's actually a pretty cool looking case. Considering I've never seen any of the episodes and the pretty low price, I might actually blind-buy this.

Yes! Despite the repetitive nature of the animation and the music, this show rocks. I still remember it when it was first broadcast; what a trip for a little kid! And at $35, guaranteed to be under my tree!

Paramount should commission another animated series, with a combination of each of the franchise's vehicles (TOS - ENT). It would sell, I'm sure!

....All the episodes in one pack for $35. Has Paramount lost its mind?

I stand dumbfounded. I had hoped to pay at least $59, if not a whole $99.

Something is afoot... or dare I say it... has Paramount turned some corner where they actually deliver on some fans hopes? First Berman is out of the loop, then confirmation of Trek XI, then TNG and DS9 packs reduced for some seasons, and now TAS for $35.

At that price it is worth the 5 year wait for this DVD.
