Jul 02 | Company of Angels (CoA), which was co-founded in 1959 by actor Leonard Nimoy, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary as Los Angeles' oldest non profit professional theater now headquartered at the historic Alexandria Hotel in downtown LA. CoA is readying to celebrate this milestone in the history of Los Angeles Theater - with a prestigious Charity Awards Gala slated for October 17, 2009 which will honor actor Leonard Nimoy for his role as a founding member as well as veteran actor Robert Ellenstein. The latest issue of Cinefantastique magazine, just out in the US, features an exclusive interview with STAR TREK ENTERPRISE producer Manny Coto, in which he again talks about the show's cancellation. Here are a few excerpts :
"When I went into this season knowing we were moved to Fridays and the budget had been reduced and there was no promotion, the handwriting was kind of on the wall" he told journalist Jeff Bond "But it is sad because what we did this season was only the tip of the iceberg of what we could have done."
"My guess is that in two years some hot new show runner, someone who is popular and has established hits, will come to Paramount and say they want to do a STAR TREK series and Paramount will say terrific." Coto said "Because STAR TREK is such an enticing brand name that there are very few people out there who would not want to do it; anyone of the people running the hot action or hot sci-fi series out there would die to do a STAR TREK series and in two or three years that opportunity will be open."
