Mr. Kim, who plays the time-traveling tough guy Jin on "Lost," has been the first actor cast in a coming remake of the crime drama "Hawaii Five-O," The Hollywood Reporter said. He has been cast as Chin Ho Kelly, a detective played by Kam Fong in the original series, which began in 1968. The STAR TREK production team may be losing one of its longtime members, according to TrekWeb sources. Merri D. Howard, who has been with the franchise since the THE NEXT GENERATION in 1987, is reportedly leaving her post as Supervising Producer on ENTERPRISE to work on an untitled new pilot. But will she be gone for good? Sources tell TrekWeb that Howard may continue in some role until production wraps in March but her return for a possible fifth season of ENTERPRISE is unlikely. The exact details of her plans are unknown.
Howard has overseen production on VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE for several years, managing an entire episode from finished script to the end of shooting. She is responsible for bringing the episode to completion on time and on budget, and often has to make the hard calls to accomplish that, such as reducing the size of a set or eliminating special effect shots. Among her day-to-day tasks are hiring the directors, making sure the episode comes in at the right length, and handling problems as they arise.
She got her start at Paramount Pictures as a Second Assistant Director on MACGYVER before landing a job as First A.D. on THE NEXT GENERATION. After a year on TNG she moved up into the position of Unit Production Manager and later Line Producer. When that series wrapped and production on STAR TREK: VOYAGER began, she moved to the new show as Producer. There her duties later expanded to Co-Supervising Producer and then Supervising Producer. After seven years, in April 2001, VOYAGER completed its run and ENTERPRISE took over, at which time Merri jumped aboard the new show retaining the title of Supervising Producer.
No official announcement or confirmation about Howard's move has been made. You can read more about her career at the Internet Movie Database.
