Notes:

  • This episode has received the highest SOS Rating of any Voyager episode to date.
The CGI Guy's Words--Mojo from Foundation Imaging:
  • [[ 5/29 ]] First of all, at no point when we were working on SCORPION did *any* of us here at Foundation notice similarities between it and B5. The only similarity I'll grant is that of the basic *shape* of the Vorlon ship and the Bio-Ship, but, IMHO, that's where it ends! They're both organic and both horizontaly oriented. The detailing and paint scheme are completely different and, if placed side by side, there's no WAY you could confuse the two ships.

For the life of me I can't understand how anyone sees a likeness between the Shadow creatures and Species 8472. Both Ron and I are really scratching our heads over this one! I mean, the Shadows look like nothing human, are spider-like, squat and black. 8472 are 12 foot tall, roughly anthropomorphic, have three legs and are pink and blue! Other than the fact that both are CGI, I really don't see it...

I can't argue that there will occasionaly be some similarities in the look and feel of the FX, since, of course, we've done both (and I really wish JMS would give credit where credit is due when he speaks of his pioneering efforts in visual FX). All of us have an ideal of what we want FX to be and that was the basis of our work for B5. That ideal and high standard remains the same and is now being applied to Voyager. If that results in a few similarities, then I plead guilty. As long as it looks good!

  • [[ 5/29 ]] The Bio-Ships are about half the size of Voyager. There really weren't any shots where you could see the scale, but I think part II will rectify that...
  • [[ 5/29 ]] How long did it take to complete the CGI?
It took about 6 weeks from start to finish, including building the creature.
  • [[ 6/3 ]] What system did you use for the aliens?
It was all done in LIGHTWAVE!
  • [[ 6/7 ]] Emile at Foundation:
I bet Foundation takes credit for the Matte painting of Janeway on the Borg ship.
    What involvement?
  • [[ 6/7 ]] Emile at Foundation:
We had no involvement in regards to the interior comp shot with Janeway in the Borg ship.

The sudden appearance of a complex and deadly bioform that destroys everything in its path forces Janeway to attempt the unthinkable--an alliance with the Borg.

John Rhys-Davies Is The Special Guest Star

"Scorpion, Part 1" -- As they approach the heart of dangerous Borg territory, the Voyager crew witnesses the near decimation of a Borg armada by a mysterious alien lifeform which is impervious to both Borg and Starfleet technology. When Kim and Chakotay lead an Away Team inside the heavily damaged Borg cube, they are able to investigate the alien lifeform's bio-ship. Moments before they are transported out, Kim is viciously attacked by the mysterious organic-looking alien. As he lies in Sickbay, contaminated with alien cells and transforming into an alien being, Kes has terrorizing premonitions about the new enemy and Janeway realizes it's no longer the Borg they must be worried about, on the season finale of "Star Trek: Voyager" airing WEDNESDAY, MAY 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m.,ET/PT) on UPN. John Rhys-Davies ("Raiders of the Lost Ark") guest stars.

Please note: This is a two-part episode. The conclusion will launch the new season of "Star Trek: Voyager" next Fall.

While Ensign Kim fights for his life, a conflicted Janeway grapples with the decision of either guiding her crew through the dangerous Borg territory which is lined with a new mortal enemy or turning around and ending all hope of ever getting home. She seeks solace on the Holodeck, in a program set in a 15th century artist's workshop, and takes advice on overcoming her dilemma from the late great Leonardo Da Vinci.
