Notes:
  • Type 9 Shuttlecrafts have a maximum speed of Warp 4.

  • Warp 9.975 is about 10 times as fast as Warp 4.

  • Voyager's communication equipment can reach over the distance covered by about 36 hours of constant Warp 8 motion.

  • Janeway's end message:
This is Kathryn Janeway. I never liked saying 'goodbye', so I'll make this brief. But I want you all to know that serving as your Captain has been the most extraordinary experience of my life. No Captain could ask more than what this crew has given--bravery, compassion, and strength of character. But what I'll miss most of all is the fun. The times we joked together, the games on the holodeck. I'll remember the laughter more than anything. Although Commander Chakotay and I won't be with you for the rest of your journey, we know that you'll be the same steadfast crew for Mr. Tuvok as you've been for us. We wish you a safe and speedy journey home. Our thoughts will be with you. Janeway out.

  • Kathryn Janeway's Personal Log, Stardate 49690.1: "Day 24 of our stay on the planet we've named New Earth. As yet, I've been unable to make any progress in finding a cure for our illness. But a soak in the tub Chakotay {made} always helps me {think about} possible solutions."

  • Chakotay's people have a saying. Actually they have a lot of them. But one that was mentioned in this episode was "Even the Eagle must know when to sleep."

  • Acting Captain's Log, Supplemental: "After six weeks, the decision to leave Captain Janeway and the First Officer behind still seems to weigh heavily on the crew." -- Tuvok

  • Lt. Anaya took Harry's place at Ops.

  • The "early shift" includes 0100 hours.

  • According to Tuvok, "The safety of the crew is Paramount."

  • Janeway hates to cook, but she does often stay up to read a book before going to sleep.

  • Chakotay has made a tub and headboards.

  • Kes's father was very wise. He shaped Kes more than anyone else. Without his training, she never would have questioned Ocampan beliefs or left their city (cf. "Caretaker) and met the crew of Voyager. Kes has just turned one when her father died. But when she started working with Tuvok (cf. "Cold Fire"), she didn't miss his as much. Tuvok was honored by the comparison.

  • Captain's Log, Stardate 49694.2: "We have contacted the Vidiian convoy with encouraging results. They have promised to communicate with Dr. Denara Pel and ask if she will help us."

  • The planet that the Captain and First Officer are on is the third planet of seven in a yellow dwarf star system.

  • Chakotay's mother used to get sore necks; he was the only one she trusted to give her a neckrub who wouldn't make them worse.

  • Closed captioning error: Chakotay says "Sleep well, Katherine." The Captain's name is misspelled.

  • Janeway grew up around farmers, and now uses that skill to plant Talaxian tomatoes.

  • "Who wanted to muck around in the firt when you could be studying quantum mechanics?!" -- Janeway.
"Resolutions" -- When Janeway and Chakotay contact a deadly virus from an insect bite, the Doctor cannot find a cure. Unable to perform her duties, Janeway is forced to turn over permanent command of the ship to Tuvok and retreat, with Chakotay, to a small planet which shields the effects of the fatal disease, on "Star Trek: Voyager" airing MONDAY, MAY 13 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET/PT) on UPN.

As Voyager moves out of her communication range, Captain Janeway leaves Tuvok with strict orders not to contact the Vidiians for help even though they may have more sophisticated medical technology to handle the crisis. While the ship's crew is struck with the harsh reality of abandoning their leader and first officer forever, the former Captain and Commander, alone on a strange planet, awkwardly drop protocol and begin to explore another side of their relationship.
