Guest Stars:

Notes:
  • This is the second episode with Seska as a Cardassian. The first was "Maneuvers".

  • Kurt Bandera was a Maquis officer. He was the third casualty to the Kazons within the past 2 weeks. There had been 4 separate attacks.

  • Impedrazine is a medicinal drug which can be used to, perhaps, "Impede" cell damage.

  • There has been a hull breach on Deck 4.

  • Tuvok's quarters are (most likely) on Deck 3.

  • Tuvok had a Vulcan Spice Tea, Hot.

  • Tuvok has a rare plant in his quarters: stems from a South American Orchid were grafted onto a Vulcan Cavinet plant. After both came close to withering away, the two enhanced each other and became stronger than either had before.

  • The Kazon Pommar are in control on the planet Sobras.

  • Neelix and Jal Tursa have had an interesting history. Tursa referred to a "last time" where apparently Neelix got into some trouble.

  • Tursa tried to solve a puzzle of moving two small metal rods to change a shape from a dodecahedron into a something-or-the-other-else-hedron.

  • Seska has lost some of her assertiveness since last time. She is more submissive to First Maje Culluh's orders in public, though she still seems to have some control when the two of them are alone. Also, the information she gave Chakotay in "Maneuvers", that she had impregnated herself with his DNA, may have been a lie: she told Culluh that the baby was going to be his child. Maybe neither one is the father, though.

  • Mabus is one of the few members of the Trabe governing council left alive.

  • The Trabe had enslaved the Kazons for a long time on the Trabe's homeworld. They were a powerful economic force in the area and none of their trading partners wanted to speak out against the harsh conditions of the Kazon holding areas, lest economic sanctions be imposed. Over 30 years ago, the Kazons revolted against the Trabe and sought to punish all of their species. Other aspects of this history were given in "Initiations".

  • All the Kazons have they stole from the Trabe, including their vessels.

  • Collogon dogs run.

  • The Kazon sects introduced thus far include:
    • Hobii -- First Maje Jal Lorah ("Maneuvers", "Alliances")
    • Mostral -- First Maje Jal Surat ("Maneuvers", "Alliances")
    • Nistrim -- First Maje Jal Culluh ("Maneuvers", "Alliances")
    • Ogla -- First Maje Jal Razik (formerly Haliz) ("Caretaker", "Initiations")
    • Oglamar -- First Maje Jal Valek ("Maneuvers", "Alliances")
    • Pommar -- First Maje Jal Mennis ("Alliances")
    • Relora -- First Maje Jal Heron; Sworn enemies of the Nistrim ("Initiations")
    • Sari -- (from Paramount press release information)

Other Majes are Jal Surat of the Mostral, Jal Lorah of the Hobii, and Jal Valek of the Oglamar.
"Alliances" - After Voyager is severly attacked by Kazon and one of its crewmen killed, Chakotay appeals to Janeway to start thinking more like the Maquis. Janeway knows she must strengthen Voyager's position in the quadrant and, although it's a difficult decision and is against her beliefs and training, she agrees to take steps toward a strategic alliance with leaders of several Kazon factions. When they come together for a conference, it's eminently clear that there are no rules in this region of space, on "Star Trek: Voyager" airing MONDAY, JAN. 22 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET/PT) on UPN.

Seeking an intermediary to begin talks with the Kazon, Neelix shuttles to Sobras, a planet with a Kazon settlement. There, he makes contact with an acquaintance, Jal Tersa of the Kazon-Pommar. Meanwhile, Janeway's initial meeting with Culluh and Seska is unsuccessful but Neelix is able to befriend Mabus, a governor of the Trabe, an exiled sect and bitter enemies of the Kazon. Thinking that the Trabe have compabible goals of peaceful co-existence, Janeway forms an alliance with them--with deadly results.
