Main engineering is the primary maintenance for facility for all ship's systems and houses the warp core and matter/anti-matter reaction chamber that provides energy for all systems.

Warp Core
This is the primary component in the ship's warp drive system, the primary form of interstellar travel for all space-faring species in the twenty-fourth century. Uniquely however, this warp drive system is the first such drive to use innovative Federation technology allowing it to operate above the 2370 Federation-prescribed ban on speeds over Warp 5 without damaging the integrity of the space-time continuum.
