  • 4.11.99: The following is from the April 20, 1999 edition of The National Enquirer, article by Darryl Wrobel. Be warned that the article contains SPOILERS about the fate of Captain Sisko.

The explosive finale to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine brings the season - and series - to a blockbuster end in the biggest action-packed thriller in Star Trek history.

The Deep Space Nine finale is one of the most satisfying and climactic episodes in the Star Trek annals", revealed a set insider.

Producers wanted the series clincher to be the most unforgettable Star Trek ever", the insider declared. And they've hit the bull's-eye with the two-hour classic, "What You Leave Behind," set to air the week of May 31, ending the show's six-year syndicated run.

The final episodes brings the bitter, bloody war between the Federation and the Dominion to a shocking and brutal conclusion," the insider disclosed.

It is the death of Avery Brooks' character Capt. Benjamin Sisko that packs the most dramatic punch.

Married, with his wife Kasidy expecting a baby, Sisko leads the Federation to a great victory against the Dominion. As Sisko achieves victory, he has another vision from the Prophets and viewers will realize that Sisko's work is not done.

Even after the war victory, he will win one final battle with his archenemy Dukat, who is trying to unleash the supernatural forces of the evil to take over the galaxy.

The next thing viewers know they will see Sisko being congratulated by the Prophets, who tell him he has saved the galaxy. Sisko talks about going to his pregnant wife but is informed he can't -- because he's dead!

The shocking turn is not all sadness for fans. It is explained that Sisko is now one of the Prophets, thriving in an afterlife that enables him to return to his wife in one last vision and tell her what has happened.

Fans of the series couldn't have asked for a better last episode -- years of questions and dramatic developments are finally resolved and everyone's favorite characters have their fates decided.

  • 4.7.99: As part of an ugly scene with Ezri and Julian, Worf decides to go back to the Enterprise (since when did Starfleet officers decide where they would be posted, although Picard does have some pull with Starfleet Command and he would leap at the chance to get Worf back). This results in the arrival of the Enterprise-E at DS9. Apparently it cost $100,000 to convert the model for use on the small screen. The Enterprise will be involved in a big battle, with all guns blazing. Was "Eleventh Hour" but read on. Chris Howell, over at the The Great Link, appears to know more than he's letting on (bugging him won't help, though). He's promised the writers that he won't say too much. He has said though that Dukat will have a very big smile on his face since things will have gone very well for him up to this point in the arc. Meanwhile, the Dominion prepares to launch a massive offensive. Bradley Thompson reckons the effects are going to cost a pile of money.
  • 3.28.99: Beware of SPOILERS... rumors from the Robert O'Reilly ("Gowron") official fan club say that the leader of the Klingon High Council dies in the series finale. Also, rumor came out of a reliable source last week that the Defiant will be destroyed in the last episodes leading up to the finale.
  • BEWARE OF SPOILERS... Rumor has it that the Enterprise E may make a cameo. Also, Sloan from Section 31 may be returning (so hints writer Bradley Thompson), expect the season-long allusions to the Battle of Alamo to "pay off," as well as to see Sisko join the leagues of the Prophets.
