  • Bashir is interrogated about his time in the Dominion internment camp, where the secretive Bureau 13--er, I mean Section 31--believes he became an operative for the Dominion. After he revealed his genetic conditioning a year ago, they realized the Dominion could have implanted a hidden imperative, and his recommendation of a Federation surrender helps their case.
  • A partial list of suspicious activities on Dr. Bashir's part, not all of which are addressed in Sloan's investigation:
    • His being twice replaced by a Changeling, but not being killed either time ("The Adversary", "In Purgatory's Shadow")
    • Attempting to free the Jem'Hadar from their Ketracel White addiction ("Hippocratic Oath")
    • His strong interest in holodeck programs about spying ("Our Man Bashir", "A Simple Investigation", and others)
    • Some unaccounted-for time during his stay at Internment Camp 371 ("In Purgatory's Shadow")
    • His ease in escaping from Internment Camp 371, in that the Runabout was not destroyed and there "just happened to be" sufficient parts in the wall of the cell to make a communicator to contact the Runabout ("By Inferno's Light")
    • The revelation of his genetic engineering ("Doctor Bashir, I Presume")
    • Giving five liters of anaerobic metabolites to Jake and Nog, who gave it to Dr. Giger, who ended up meeting with Weyoun (In the Cards) (okay, this one stretches things a bit)
    • His strong recommendation that Starfleet surrender to the Dominion, and his meeting with Weyoun ("Statistical Probabilities)

Internal Affairs Officer Sloan arrives on the station, announcing that there has been a possible security breach. He believes an officer may be passing information to the Dominion and promptly confines the senior staff to quarters. Later, Sloan summons Bashir for a brief interview, which appears to go well. Back in his room, however, the doctor learns that O'Brien was interrogated for two hours--about him. Just then, Bashir is taken to a second meeting with Sloan.

DETAILED REPORT

Bashir is going to go to a "medical conference" on Risa with O'Brien, who has a fractured (?) shoulder, but shortly before he is to leave some people claiming to be from Starfleet security come to the station and lock it down because they claim that there is a Dominion spy on the station.. All senior staff are confined to quarters, and when they question all of them, they only ask about Bashir. When Bashir is first questioned, him and the leader of the group, Sloan, seem to get along. But when he's brought back, Sloan nails him with a whole bunch of questions about his time at internment camp 371 and how he lied to everyone about his genetic status, the only person who believes that he's not the spy is Sisko. So Bashir is put into a holding cell, but the forcefield fritzes off, and he is beamed abourd a Cardie ship, or so he thinks. Weyoun then tells him that he is secretely a spy, but right before Weyoun is about to "debrief" Bashir, the Cardie ship comes under attack from the Defiant. Then an away team comes abourd the Cardie ship, and they (the away team and Bashir) are beamed back to the Defiant. Sisko then spits at Bashir and tells him to get off the Defiants bridge, but Bashir notices O'Brien. His shoulder is ok now. Bashir then starts screaming about how it's all fake, and he finds that he's been beamed into the holodeck. Sloan, the leader of the group, then says that the Federation council doesn't even know about it, (but it is Federation), and he compared it to the Tal Shiar and the Obsidian Order. Sloan tells Bashir that he'd make an excellent agent for them, and wants him to join, but he refuses. Bashir tells Sisko everything, and all is normal again. -->
