Guest Stars:

Notes:
  • Vidal Peterson, who played Rugal here, also played D'Tan in TNG's "Unification" two-parter.

  • The Cardassians left a number of orphaned children on Bajor after the occupation. The Bajorans took them in as their own children.

  • This story is similar to TNG's "Suddenly Human", except that the Cardassian child has no desire to return to his blood family, while Jono did have some feelings of returning to the Federation.

  • Cardassians tend to pay attention to details, and would not leave a task unfinished.

  • Gul Dukat was in charge of the withdrawal from Bajor.

  • In practice, the civilian government of Cardassia has no control over the military. (cf. "Defiant")

  • According to Gul Dukat, the Bajoran pullout was a civilian political decision that the military opposed, and that the decision to leave the orphans was made by the civilian leaders.

  • Dr. Bashir and Garak visit the Tozak resettlement center on Bajor, the location that Rugal was taken during the withdrawal.

  • Garak can repair computers.

  • Children without parents have no status on Cardassia.

  • Garak: "I don't make the rules."
Bashir: "But you do play the game, don't you, Garak?"

  • Garak: "I believe in coincidence. Coincidences happen every day. But I don't trust coincidences."

  • A Bajoran administrator named Jomat Lusan would have been the person to write the original fila about Rugal.

  • Sisko: "So, you deduced that Garak thinks Dukat is lying about something you're not sure of, and you proceeded to interrupt my conversation to confront him about whatever that might be."

  • Terok Nor is the Cardassian name of the station. When the Federation took over (cf. "Emissary"), they renamed is "Deep Space Nine".

  • Gul Dukat is a key witness in the investigations of the Cardassians involved with the recent coup attempt (cf. the second season opener).

  • Gul Dukat was the commanding officer of Terok Nor at least eight years ago (SD 39000.0 or so), and stayed at the position until the withdrawal.

  • Garak: "You don't need me to tell you, my friend. Notice the details. They're scattered like the crumbs all over this table."
