Is Deep Space Nine Deep-Sixing Dax?
The Latest 2.23.98: On the Howard Stern Show this morning, Terry Farrell confirmed that her contract HAS NOT been renewed and that she very well may be out next season. She mentioned looking forward to moving on, but did slip in the notion that it's always possible she may be back, but at this point it doesn't look like it!!
More reports: The reports are just flowing in, this one from someone who worked the Creation Convention this weekend... "We even personally spoke with her. She seems extremely certain that she is not coming back and even said good bye to the fans at the end of the show. She jokes about the writers killing off her character but there could be some truth to that. But three of us did have a chance to speak with her and she seems upset."
As I reported on the Bulletin Board yesterday, at a Creation Convention in New York on Saturday with Terry Farrell and Michael Dorn, Terry broke the news that she won't be returning to DS9 next season. Although we hope this is just a negotiation tactic to try to get fan uproar to persuade Paramount to raise her offer (which should be done anyway), we may have to prepare to see Dax leave at the end of the season. We'll keep you updated on the latest!
Hi there. I was at the Creation Convention at the Marriott Hotel here in NY city last night. Michael Dorn and Terry Farrell were there.
The big news to me and it seemed everyone else there was that Dax will not be coming back next season! I hope this is simply part of the negotiation process(let it slip to the audience, then they get up in arms to Paramount about her not coming back, then she gets an new offer and stays) but all indications are that she is gone.
She was asked point blank if she has re-signed and she said no. Then she went on to say she was given a take it or leave it offer, and she said she couldn't accept what they were offering. That was as much as she was willing to share, although she did wonder out loud about how they were going to get rid of her. She wants to be killed off, but thought they might just send her away on some far away mission to a remote outpost (shades of B5?)
Terry was great at the convention, and seemed very flippant about the whole mess. It was funny to watch her go off on everything at the convention, and it seemed as if she didn't care what she said. I really hope something changes and she is back again. Who knows. I also don't know if this was her last convention or not. Dorn did mention a possible "Star Fleet Academy" project as the next TV spin- off for the "Trek" universe. And filming for the new "Trek" film will begin sometime in June.
((Glen Note: I’d heard that filming on the next movie was to begin late March or early April. Perhaps Dorn was referring to the filming of his part? Or, perhaps the script problems being felt by the film have slowed things down a bit. Not likely - as they’re under the gun and heading into a final draft if I understand correctly))
