TrekWeb.COM Live Chat With Lolita Fatjo, Script Coordinator. September 23rd, 1999 (C) 1999 TrekWeb.COM. All Rights Reservered. Special Thanks to David Henderson with Psi Phi (http://www.psiphi.org) Harry Tusa says: Will Star Trek continue its current spec script policy of taking outside teleplays or have you planned on switching to completely in-house writing? Lolita says: At this point we are still accepting spec scripts. You can call the Hot Line @ 323.956.8301. Enabran Tain says: Lolita, how many spec scripts would you get in a week and how high are the chances of them actually being approved to be read by Brannon Braga or another member of the writing staff? Lolita says: We get 20 - 30 scripts a week. Chances of having anything being purchased from your script are < 1%. But please try, we're ALWAYS looking for good ideas! Sir Jonah says: Hello. I am quite curious as to which screenwriting software you and your writers use on the show... is it tailor-made, or off the shelf? Lolita says: We use a VERY old script program called Scriptor. THere are many new programs you can purchase depending on your needs. Stephen says: Where do you see Voyager going as a series in this season? How successful do you think the new bad guys will be? Lolita says: Who are the new bad guys?! Seibmeyer says: When you came to germany (fedcon) you were romantically associated (thats what HE called it) with Max Grodenchick (Rom on DS9). Hows it going with him? You looked happy together.. Any chance we will see Max again on ST in the future? Lolita says: Everything is fine with Max thanks for asking. He sure hopes he's back in ST soon! Jono says: How honored were you when the TNG writers named a character after you (Kivas Fajo)? And did you have any "influence" in getting them to name it after you? Lolita says: I was VERY honored and No, I had no influence. Pasquale Macri II says: Have you ever had a spec script be made into a Star Trek Show? Lolita says: Yes, but only four in the last ten years; Measure of a Man, The Bonding, The Offspring and Tin Man. Jinx says: How effective is posting on message boards to effect a change on a series? I've written letters, e-mailed Braga and posted messages on various boards to convey my disatisfaction with several aspects of VOY and was wondering if any of it does any good and if so which is the most effective. Loita says: I'm not really the person to be asking this question to but I imagine that if any of the writers look at these message boards then they will choose to use the information or not. Foster says: Having worked closely with Ron Moore and Brannon Braga over the years, can you offer any insight to Ron's departure from Voyager and Trek? Lolita says: No I can not offer any insight but I can say that both Ron and Brannon are extremely talented writers and have both offered an incredible amount of good work to the Star Trek franchise! Manny Patel Jnr. says: What are the rumours about Seven of Nine's character to be revealed to be Bisexual? Lolita Says: Hello Manny!! Lolly says YOU can answer that yourself! Captain Kirk says: Hi Lolita! I was wondering why fans are discouraged from submitting scripts featuring original series characters? In my opinion the fans seem to know how they would like TOS characters to return. It just seems a shame! Lolita says: THe reason being that if any of the TOS were going to come back our staff would create the storyline. We encourage you to send in other ideas in your spec scripts. LtBashir says: What can you tell us about this season? Any new and interesting plot devices used? Any battles? ;D Thankies for coming! Lolita says: This season should prove to be incredibly exciting. What did you think of last night's show? Layby says: Do you think that there is a chance that Voyager will go on for an eighth season? Lolita says: That would be great, but I think it's a little too early to say. twkartist says: As an amateur astronomer, I loved the concept of "Voyager" for its potential of "exploration." In the past five seasons, however, we have had very little in the way of actual exploration of other worlds and other space phenomena. Could you please comment on this? Lolita says: I feel Voyager, more then any other ST shows has shown exploration. What would you like to see happen? Janeway always makes a point of exploring on their way home. Stinky says: Who is your favorite Voyager staff writer and why? Lolita says: Stinky I think you know the answer to that question. It's you, of course. WHo's YOUR favorite writer? Lister says: When someone submits a teleplay to Voyager, what's the first thing you look for? Are there certain things you would discourage from doing while submitting? Lolita says: I encourage you to follow the guidelines we provide you. I think the writing staff is always looking for good stories about our crew. davidh says: How did you get started in Hollywood? Lolita says: I was an actress who found herself unemployed during the 1987 writers' strike. When the strike was over I was fortunate enough to land a temp job as an assistant to one of the writers on TNG. davidh says: Is it true that Arlee Reed, who has made two guest appearances in TNG, is your brother? Lolita says: No, that is not true. Gairta says: Are you happy that Voyager is a UPN show? How has UPN been treating Voyager all these years, from your point of view? Lolita says: Yes, I'm happy that Voyager is on UPN. I think UPN has treated Voyager very well and vice versa. Brad says: Other than Ron Moore's two (one and a half?) episodes, have any other DS9 writers written teleplays or stories this season? Lolita says: NO, Ron is it! Brad says: Will you bo doing any conventions in or around Illinois (Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis) any time soon? Lolita says: I sure hope so. There is a possibility of Champaigne, IL Feb 12 - 13 with Chase Masterson and Max Grodenchik. Juventas says: Do you find your creativeness conflicting with budget and time constraints? Lolita says: I think that Brannon Braga could answer this question better, but I do know they are constantly +aware of all of the constraints that arise in production. Lolita says: At this point, no one knows what the merger will bring in the future of Trek. Rygel-the16th says: For young adults trying to get into the Writing business for television; what do you think are the best roads in The Television/Hollywood Entertainment Business to follow to help acheive their dreams? Lolita says: Practice your writing. Take lots of classes. Remember: It's a lot of hard work. Stick with your dreams and hopefully they will all come true! Juventas says: Where do you see yourself in ten years from now? Lolita says: WOW!!!!!!!! That's a loaded question! If someone had asked me 12 years ago what I would be doing tonight, I would NEVER in a million years guessed I would be chatting in a Star Trek room! My life has never been the same since I walked into this building in 1987. Thanks to all of you fans! You have changed my life forever!! Lolita says: Thank you Steve for my first chat! I hope we do it again! xoxoxo Lolita (C) 1999 TrekWeb.COM. All Rights Reservered.
