<SteveKrutzler> ADMIRAL ON DECK
<BradleyThompson>
I'll vouch for that
<SteveKrutzler> indeed
<StevePerry> I love it when he says Admiral on Deck
<StevePerry> so offical
<SteveKrutzler> Welcome to Bradley Thompson's FIRST live
chat session!
<DilberTrek> Yayayay Bradley :)
<SteveKrutzler> Welcome Bradley, thanks for being here
tonight!
<SteveKrutzler> Would you like to make any opening remarks
before we delve into questions?
<StevePerry> Remember folks, send questions to moi (that's
"me," ok?), not to Steve
<BradleyThompson>
Does this mean everything's done?
<BradleyThompson> Weyoun is in the season finale. And
that's probably the last hint I'll give you about it.
<BradleyThompson> Are we waiting for something?
<BradleyThompson> Thanks
<SteveKrutzler> ok
<SteveKrutzler> here we go...
<BradleyThompson>
No. Just fire away.
<SteveKrutzler> our first
question...
.<SteveKrutzler> From Psi Phi: The credits for "The
Reckoning" read "Teleplay by David Weddle & Bradley
Thompson", compared with the usual "Bradley Thompson
& David Weddle". Does this mean David did more work on
"Reckoning" than you, or will you be flip-flopping who
goes first every other episode, the way Ira Steven Behr and
Robert Hewitt Wolfe did in the fifth season?
<BradleyThompson>
We're flip-flopping.
<BradleyThompson> By the time we've finished a draft,
nobody knows who did what, anyway.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From DamonJai: What made you come up with the idea of Section 31 in "Inquisition"? Did you feel the Federation needed its own Pseudo-intelligence agency?
<DilberTrek> Section 31 was Bradley's idea? Wow ... great idea. :)
<BradleyThompson> The
freeformers got the answer to this earlier -- We wanted to pit
Julian's brain against the most beaurocratic thing we could think
of. It eveolved into something Khafkaesque, and then Ira came up
with the idea that it was starfleet. With Julian's record that
was the most likely.
<BradleyThompson> Section 31 was IRA's
<BradleyThompson>
Need more details, or does that answer it?
<SteveKrutzler> That probably covers it. :-)
<SteveKrutzler> From BorgMom: For a show like "One
Little Ship" the staff must have had a lot of extra set
building to do. As a writer, how much do you have to worry about
the cost of the production values for a show you are writing and
how do those issues get resolved?
<BradleyThompson>
Or was it Hans?
<BradleyThompson> I'm still trying to recall. The two of
them gave it the name.
<BradleyThompson> Re
sets -- we were very careful to use existing sets for Little
ship.
<BradleyThompson> We do worry about the cost a lot. It was
going to be a heavy optical show, so we have to bring the budget
down somehow. Which is one reason we ended up doing it aboard the
Defiant.
<BradleyThompson> The
issues are resolved in meetings. If you have enough meetings, the
problesm usually go away.
<BradleyThompson> #
<StevePerry> Sounds like the opposite
of bureaucracy there :)
<DilberTrek> Didnt notice any problems when watching the ep
;D
<BradleyThompson>
Opposite of government, anyway.
<SteveKrutzler> From rms: We now know that Jadzia Dax will
die in 'Tears of the prophets'. How much notice did you have from
Terry Farrel that she was going to leave. Do you think you have
managed to intergate her departure into the storyline as well as
you would have liked?
<BradleyThompson>
#
<BradleyThompson> Terry's departure was integrated into the final episode from the time we broke it. We wanted to give her a sendoff befitting a much beloved character.
<BradleyThompson> #
<BradleyThompson> The
dailies on that show are looking quite nice and the show seems to
be working on a lot of levels.
<StevePerry> Oh, you can keep talking about the finale is
you want to! :)
<DilberTrek> No one will stop you.. ;-D
<SteveKrutzler> no one'll mind :-)
<SteveKrutzler> heeh
<DilberTrek> (Wink wink, nudge nudge, hint hint ;D)
<StevePerry> Do we have lag? If anyone is experiencing lag,
message me
<SteveKrutzler> From Thunderlove: How did you get past the basic Kira-reaction to "One Little Ship's" silly concept, and actually turn it into an entertaining episode?!
<BradleyThompson> Rene and Ron helped us get off on the right foot -- We knew we had to give everyone permisssion to laugh right from the start or we's be sunk.
<BradleyThompson> Once you know that we know that the idea's whacky, and we say, yeah, but come on the ride anyway,
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> Well, it was a good
ride
<SteveKrutzler> I thought :-)
<SteveKrutzler> Next question...
<SteveKrutzler> From Berserker: I am very excited about
"The Reckoning." Any way you could slip us a tidbit
telling us what it is about?
<BradleyThompson>
Prophecy. Even the Prophets have enemies.
<DilberTrek> I reckon he could. ;D
<BradleyThompson>
#
* StevePerry slaps DilberTrek
<SteveKrutzler> From CaptainCrunch: So, do you guys get
assigned story ideas, or do you come to Behr or whomever with
independent ideas?
* DilberTrek likes making Bad, BAD jokes ;D
<BradleyThompson>
It happens all kinds of ways. Inquisition came by twisting an
idea I took in a pitch beyond all recognition.
<BradleyThompson> Sons and Daughters came from something
somebody said at lunch.
<DilberTrek> Figures. Did they puke right after they said
it? ;)
<BradleyThompson>
With the first war arc, we were given a choice of doing the Worf
story or the fifth episode as our first bit on staff.
* DilberTrek likes Sons and Daughters deep down... in the pit of
my stomach ;)
<BradleyThompson>
Drink grapok sauce
<SteveKrutzler> LOL
<StevePerry> ha ha
<DilberTrek> LOL
<BradleyThompson>
Incidentlally, the fifth episode was too much like the first, so
Favor the BOld was born from the ashes
<SteveKrutzler> interesting.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From DC Al Fine: What is your favorite
episode that you have done so far?
<BradleyThompson>
Inquisition
<BradleyThompson> #
<StevePerry> Agreed. That one rocked
<SteveKrutzler> LuNaTiK asks: Have
you or any other DS9 writer thought about writing how the
Federation fell to the Dominion, and how Starfleet Officers fight
to free themselves from the oppressive Dominion regime? Sort of
like building a new Starfleet?
<BradleyThompson>
I can't answer for what anyone else is thinking... and if we're
planning that, I certainly wouldn't say so.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From LOYD: One Little Ship had the Alpha
Jem Hadar speaking of a new order. Is this foreshadowing of
things to come?
<BradleyThompson>
The Alpha Jem'Hadar seem to have a few bugs in their programming.
<DilberTrek> Kinda like Windows 98.
<BradleyThompson>
Yeah
<DilberTrek> Oh wait, he said a FEW bugs
<SteveKrutzler> I see someone watched NBC news tonight. :-)
<StevePerry> Both seek conquest too..
<BradleyThompson>
Except Win95 doesn't try to kill you
<DilberTrek> <--Laughed when Win98 crashed on Gates ;D
<SteveKrutzler> LOL
<StevePerry> But the Justice Department can't stop the Jem
Hadar
<SteveKrutzler> okie doke guys... the MS discussion is one
in and of itself
<DilberTrek> LMAO Steve
<SteveKrutzler> From Earl: We already know that Dax will
die in the season finale, but at a recent chat, Terry Farrell
said that she wanted to come back for the last episode. Does this
mean that the Dax that dies could be a changling? (please)
<BradleyThompson>
That would be kiss and tell, wouldn't it.
<SteveKrutzler> depends on how ya look at it :-)
<StevePerry> I'm puckering up :)
<BradleyThompson>
The bit about "we already know" seems to come from All
The President's Men.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Bexter12: Who is your favorite DS9
character to write for?
<BradleyThompson>
I love them all. O'Brien and Bashir are two guys hanging out, and
David and I are two guys hanging out, so that's fun. And Nana can
make ANYTHING work.
<DilberTrek> Dax is my guess. Soooo many ways to kill her.
;D
<BradleyThompson>
She's been shot a lot
<SteveKrutzler> hehe
<SteveKrutzler> From Centurian Bochra: First a compliment.
I loved "Business as Usual". It's good to see Quark
doing something besides slapstick once and awhile. Simple
question. How's it feel being the new writer? Did you have to
brush up on the show, or were you familiar with it already?
<BradleyThompson>
Once we got the shot to pitch, we made it our business to get
familiar FAST
<BradleyThompson> Thanks for the compliment. Business as
Usual gave us a psychotic with nukes, which is always fun.
<SteveKrutzler> sure, can't go wrong
with nukes!
<DilberTrek> Nukes ... nah, not going there ;>
<DilberTrek> (Nuke B5 ;>)
<SteveKrutzler> From Cainus: Are you going to write the follow up to "Inquisition"?
<BradleyThompson> Me?
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> hehe
<StevePerry> Or you and David...
<BradleyThompson>
We know we made a promise. We try to keep our promises.
* DilberTrek wants to know who 'David' is.
;D
<SteveKrutzler> [David Weddle, Bradley's writing partner]
<BradleyThompson>
Whether it's David or Rene or Ira or Hans or Ron -- it'll be a
doozy
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> we look forward to
it!
<SteveKrutzler> From Matthew: Do you think that season 7
seem a little too busy? Next year seems to be the year in which a
whole lot is going to happen perhaps too much! DS9 has to wrap up
a whole lot of old stories, Riker, Opaca, Dax,Dominion story,
Section 31 and a whole lot more. Not only that but they might
even start new stories like Ensign Ro. What the writters needed
to do was start the compleeting stories this year. Do you think
they should have done this?
<BradleyThompson>
As Pilate said, What is written is written.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From JoseG: Without
giving away any major spoilers (as I know writers loathe to do),
can you tell us how this year's finale compares to some of DS9's
previous ones?
<BradleyThompson>
I haven't seen it yet, but every year we try to top the last
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Emony_Dax: Will the next host for the
Dax symbiont be male or female?
<DilberTrek> Will most likely be
Worf.
<BradleyThompson>
If the symbiont survives, we'll see.
<DilberTrek> :)
<StevePerry> I'll take that as a "no comment"
<SteveKrutzler> ah, we'll see indeed (so suggests Ira
anyway)
<BradleyThompson>
He's a good source.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Sue DS9: Can you
give us any input to either "Out of Time" ? And will we
see more or less of Colm in the next few eps leading up to his
eps.???
<DilberTrek> "Out of Time"-- (n) what Ira says to
Bradley when it's time to turn a script in
<BradleyThompson>
"Out of Time" will feature Colm. And the title's been
changed to "Time's Orphan." Has some nice stuff with
Dax and Worf, too.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> ah, new title.
<SteveKrutzler> I'll note that for my listings. :-)
<SteveKrutzler> From porthos: would you like to make a
cameo in an episode like RH Wolfe did?
<BradleyThompson>
You heard it here first.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> :-)
<BradleyThompson>
He did it as he left the show. I'd like to stick around a while.
<BradleyThompson> #
<StevePerry> he he :)
<SteveKrutzler> From Frued: What episode of yours do you
think did not come off the way it should have, if any?
<BradleyThompson>
Still thinking about that one.
<BradleyThompson> We're proud of everything we've been
done.
<BradleyThompson> ugh -- horible English there.
<BradleyThompson> ugh -- horible English there.
<SteveKrutzler> that's why you're
paid the big bucks!
<SteveKrutzler> :-)
<StevePerry> Don't worry, it happen to all of us
<BradleyThompson>
For the typing rite?
<SteveKrutzler> hehe
<SteveKrutzler> so, there isn't a show that you'd like
another crack at?
<DilberTrek> Quick Q: Is that Bradley
typing, or a typist? ;)
<SteveKrutzler>
It's Bradley
<BradleyThompson> From my fingers to your screen.
<DilberTrek> Kewl :)
<BradleyThompson>
You should see the first drafts!
<DilberTrek> LOL!
<SteveKrutzler> feel sorry for Ira
<SteveKrutzler> har har
<SteveKrutzler> LuNaTiK asks: DS9 is a show of shades of
grey, and I applaud yourself and the rest of the DS9 staff for
exploring it successfully. Will we ever be able to see any
officer who is "battle shocked" by the horrors of the
war and the toll taken on Starfleet?
<BradleyThompson>
That's why we have a script department. They make us look
literate.
<SteveKrutzler> (Lolita tries :-)
<BradleyThompson>
What's battle shock? Sisko was pretty shoecked with the casualty
lists.
<BradleyThompson> Lolita's a doll.
<SteveKrutzler> so I hear
<DilberTrek> Lolita Fajita?
<DilberTrek> <--Cant spell her name.
<SteveKrutzler> I think Sisko in
"Pale" was pretty shocked. Maybe the questioner means
along the lines of mental instability, such as Dukat....
<StevePerry> FATJO!
<BradleyThompson>
Everyone on the station is feeling the effects of the war. Ron
has a show later this season that examines one aspect of this.
<BradleyThompson> #
<BradleyThompson> Fatjo
<SteveKrutzler> Would that be...
"Sound of Her Voice?"
<BradleyThompson>
Yes
<SteveKrutzler> From RobinSmith: Do you have any ideas as
to what you want to see happen with Section 31?
<BradleyThompson>
OK I'll go back to the shock thing.
<BradleyThompson> We've looked at that in Kira, and how it
hardened her. We've seen Jake look into himself after finding out
that the difference between a hero and a coward can be as small
as time of day.
<BradleyThompson> Section 31 is a wonderful playpen. The
questions we've come up with are often more interesting than the
answers -- such as with Garak. Did you believe Sloan was who he
said he was?
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> in the end, only marginally.
<BradleyThompson>
Good.
<SteveKrutzler> From UncleWacky: Hello, Mr. Thompson, and
thanks for being here...My question is, what is the most
difficult process of breaking a script down into acts that fit
within the confines prescribed
<SteveKrutzler> by Paramount syndication?
<BradleyThompson>
As long as the commercial doesn't fall on the half-hour so you'll
change that dial, we can break them for what suits the drama the
best.
<BradleyThompson> A
five minute act might raise some eyebrows though.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> re five minute act: Sacrifice of Angels :-)
<SteveKrutzler> (with the Prophets)
<SteveKrutzler> From rms: Is it true the actors contracts
for the 7th season also allow them the option of doing a DS9
movie?
<BradleyThompson> I
have no idea what their contracts say.#
<SteveKrutzler> From BrianMeloche: How long did it take for
you and your partner to come up with stories to pitch? Speaking
from my experience, some of my best stories have come within 24
hours of pitching, when the chips are down. What about you?
<BradleyThompson>
David and I worked for quite a while on our pitches. Business as
Usual came after a month of mulling over something that Ira said
-- that he was looking for a show that tested the limits of
Quark's greed
<BradleyThompson> Rules of Engagement came to me after
reading a book about computer failures -- and David and I almost
dumped the idea.
<BradleyThompson> How long does it take to get an idea? I
have no idea how you measure that. Some of the one-line ideas
that were really bad took a long time. Others that Ira didn't buy
took a lot less time.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Emony_Dax: Will
we be seeing Alexander anytime soon or later in the future?
<BradleyThompson>
No plans -- but we're going to try to cover all the bases next
season.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Weyoun: What did it feel like seeing
your first DS9 episode produced? Did you feel like it had been a
success?
<BradleyThompson>
Yes!!!! Ron did a great job with the script, LeVar Burton with
the directing and we were just tickled beyond belief.
<BradleyThompson> Then the Assignment hit the screen we
were very happy that so much of our work remained -- and that
Hans had topped us beautifully.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From JoseG: Bradley, I thought
"Inquisition" was just superb. Was there any thought of
actually making Bashir turn out to be a spy, or was this episode
always really about the introduction of Section 31?
<BradleyThompson>
We did talk about having Bashir turn out to be a spy, but it felt
<BradleyThompson> too much like we'd already been there
with him when he
<BradleyThompson> was a Changeling.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From UncleWacky: Who are writers that
inspire your scripting efforts?
<BradleyThompson>
Joseph Heller, Joseph Conrad, William Manchester, Raymond
Chandler ---
<BradleyThompson> Stephen Ambrose, Ambrose Bierce, Franz
Khafka
<BradleyThompson> there are more.
<BradleyThompson> #
<StevePerry> Nice
selection from different fields
there...
<BradleyThompson>
Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein
<BradleyThompson> Orson Scott Card
<SteveKrutzler> From Brian: Have you ever pitched to
Voyager?
<BradleyThompson>
Yes
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Omega Supreme: What happened to the
Tholians and the Breen? They haven't been mentioned since the
beginning of the war! Maybe the Federation could have a status
report on these races and what they are doing with the Dominion.
<BradleyThompson>
They were looking for something weirder than we had in our
samples box.
<BradleyThompson> Let me catch up here.
<StevePerry> Yeah, we got our signals crossed...
<SteveKrutzler> Vgr likes weird stunts :-)
<BradleyThompson>
The Tholians signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion. The
Breen are hunkered down waiting to see who they can exploit
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> UncleWacky follows-up: Ever think of
adapting Bierce's "Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge" into
some type of DS9 teleplay?
<BradleyThompson>
It's been done enough times already.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> How long have you and David been writing,
and have you pitched to other shows?
<SteveKrutzler> (From LB4747)
o)
<BradleyThompson>
David wrote a play in 1980 that he had the wisdom to cast me in.
<BradleyThompson> We traded screenplays before that in an acting class and liked each others work
<BradleyThompson> In
1985, I asked him if I could adapt the play to the screen and he
said go ahead.
<BradleyThompson> I
did a draft -- he liked it. He did a draft off that, I liked it.
We didscovered we worked well together.
<BradleyThompson> Then he went off to write journalism for
fifteen years and I went into educational film.
<BradleyThompson> He
wrote the superb biography of Sam Peckinpah "If They Move,
Kill 'Em" that Ira read, liked and invited him to come to
the set.
<DilberTrek> Getting late...I'm off to bed, gang. :) have a
good chat..thanks for coming Bradley :)
<BradleyThompson>
Then--- David asked if he could pitch the show. And remembered
me.
<BradleyThompson>
G'nite D.
<BradleyThompson> #
<StevePerry> Later Dilber
<SteveKrutzler> Ah, the backstory of
Weddle and Thompson revealed :-)
<BradleyThompson>
Put Dilbert to sleep.
<SteveKrutzler> always good to know
about your Trek writers.
<SteveKrutzler> hehe, he went downhill after his Sons &
Daughters joke :-)
<SteveKrutzler> From Penguin: Out of curiousity why have
the Ferengi been completely ignored during this war? When they
were created in TNG they were designed to be an evil race but
became good later. Wouldn't the Ferengi still have a large fleet
tha SHOULD be mentioned somewhere. I think they should come in by
surprise in some episode something that wouldn't be expected.
<BradleyThompson> I
know how that feels
<SteveKrutzler> what? S&D jokes?
<BradleyThompson>
OK The Ferengi. They're the ones that first contacted the
Dominion, if I recall. This is all their fault.
<BradleyThompson> Quark did it!!!
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> figures
<SteveKrutzler> :-)
<SteveKrutzler> From MikeWhipple: Do you plan to write
further episodes
<SteveKrutzler> on the rest of the cast like O'Brien,
<SteveKrutzler> Bashir, Nog, Jake?
<BradleyThompson>
We're looking forward to doing our share next season.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From bexter12: Will we see any kind of
civil war between the Gem H'Dar alphas and gammas?
<BradleyThompson>
Not out of the realm of possibility, though I would think the
Founders
<BradleyThompson> would work out the glitches in the Alphas
before that could get serious.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From deep inside Cardassia Prime, Weyoun
asks: I am going to lump a bunch of quesitons into one, and hope
you can answer part of them. Does the season finale "Tears
of the Prophets" have to do with a new orb coming out of the
wormhole? and is this how Jadzia Dax will die?
<SteveKrutzler> Also it has been said that Weyoun, Damar,
and Dukat will all be in the Finale, will they be responisble for
the death of Jadzia? And i know i am harping on this issue but
Nana Visitor has been quoted as saying that they will put dax in
a
<SteveKrutzler> new host and that the new host will want to
stay married to worf. Can you shed any light on these issues?
<SteveKrutzler> (long one)
<BradleyThompson> OK
-- No new orbs.
<BradleyThompson> Our favorite bad guys (with apologies to
Dukat's Women) will show up in the finale.
<BradleyThompson> And
what Nana says is what Nana says. Maybe she's talking to someone
I'm not.
<StevePerry> Pesky actors!
<BradleyThompson>
Gotta love em.
<SteveKrutzler> From the infamous
"Berserker" (or "Berserk-," as Ira calls
him): Since Reckoning airs next week, I feel it is appropriate to
ask this: DS9 use to be Bajor, Bajor, Bajor every week, and now
it is war, war, war. Any way of finding a middle ground with the
war AND Bajor?
<BradleyThompson>
Not without the Ferengi
<BradleyThompson> We try to balance things with the tale
the Series is telling. War tends to take center stage. Especially
if they're shooting at you.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From UncleWacky: Can you give an example of a significant character revelation that you scripted or pitched that was rejected?
<BradleyThompson> Not
really, because we'll go back and try again. The bad ones I'd
just as soon not mention. But of note--
<BradleyThompson> Rene originally pitched the idea that
became One Little Ship back in the TNG days. They
<SteveKrutzler> ...turned it into "Rascals?"
<BradleyThompson>
didn't want it. He brought it up again at DS9 and Ira gave him
and absolute NO WAY.
<BradleyThompson> He took it to Voyager
<BradleyThompson> Another no.
<SteveKrutzler> hehe, I can see Ira & Brannon telling
Rene to burn it! :-)
<BradleyThompson>
Then were in the right mood, found the right hook into it -- I
think it was Hans that brought it back up.
<BradleyThompson> Rene thought we were putting him on when
we told him it was on the table.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Kookabura, King of the Bush Tree (don't ask me): What's your take on technobabble? One Little Ship was the first time Trek used "acretion disk." That just SOUNDS good, you know? Anyway, how do you feel about the tech talk?
<BradleyThompson>
Accretion disk is the area that gets sucked into a black hole --
it's a real phenomenon.
<BradleyThompson> Technobabble is the incantation that
allows us to believe the magic. And like all magic spells, must
be used sparingly.
<BradleyThompson> Andre Bormanis spends a lot of time
thinking about things like how to build a time machine and when
he spins it out for us, it's a thing of beauty.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Tony-O, with Miss Jan: I've heard talk
of an "arc" or at least some pre-planning next season?
Anything you can say on this?
<BradleyThompson>
As someone mentioned earlier, we have a lot of loose ends to tie
up.
<BradleyThompson> It will take some planning, and we're
going to try and lay in the foundation as soon as the finale is
in the can.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> LuNaTiK asks: Could Starfleet R&D
(research and development), along with Klingon R&D and
Romulan R&D form some kind of 24th century atom bomb that
would dessimate the Dominion and parallel Hiroshima or Nagasaki?
<StevePerry> Sure!
<BradleyThompson> I
don't think there will be a TECH fix to this war. We're going to
have to slug it out and take our lumps.
<BradleyThompson> But, you never know.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Psi Phi: Where
would you like to see DS9 go after its seventh season? An eighth
season? Made-for-TV movies? A motion picture?
<BradleyThompson>
I'l love to be wrking her this time next year, but I don't think
that's going to happen. All things must pass
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From Negvar: I know that you don't want to
show the Enterprise for various reasons, but will it ever be
mentioned, just to give the big TNG fans a little treat?
<BradleyThompson>
We mentioned her in Change of Heart
<BradleyThompson> #
<StevePerry> True..
<SteveKrutzler> ah
<SteveKrutzler> From Brian: What's next for you after Ds9?
<BradleyThompson>
We have no idea. But Ira got us into this business and we like
it. We'll be looking for work and trying to hustle the feature
scripts we've accumulated.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> Bradley has time for two more questions...
<SteveKrutzler> From FAN: You don't appear to be credited
for your staff position on ds9 (or at least you weren't last time
I checked). Why is this and will this change next season?
<BradleyThompson>
Staff writers are only credited on episoides they write. When
they decided they liked us, they brought us on as Story Editors,
which gets a cool title about third after the
<BradleyThompson> Executive producers at the end. Next year
we get to be Executive Story Editor. My parents are thrilled.
<SteveKrutzler> I bet.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> From rms: Any chance of seeing a 'good'
ominion in the Alternate universe? I would love to see Jeffrey
Combs playing the hero for a change.
<BradleyThompson>
Isn't he the hero?
<SteveKrutzler> hmm, interesting angle..
<BradleyThompson>
Jeffrey's so versatile that he souldn't have to be Dominion to do
another character.
<BradleyThompson> No plans for that though. And we
routinely reject pitches for a second Dominion to bail us out of
our troubles.
<BradleyThompson> #
<SteveKrutzler> I can agree with that! Jeff is spectacular
(re: Far Beyond, and of course Weyoun)
<BradleyThompson> And
Brunt, FCA
<SteveKrutzler> yeah
<SteveKrutzler> Ok
<SteveKrutzler> one more...
<SteveKrutzler> End the night on a humorous note...
<SteveKrutzler> From Berserker: Do your parents watch the
show? Do you have to explain things to them, like the Dominion
etc?
<BradleyThompson> My folks introduced me to Star Trek. I can remember that was the big night we all got to sit infront of the
<BradleyThompson> color TV and watch Kirk and Spock and McCoy...
<SteveKrutzler> mmm, color tv...
mmmmm.. :-)
<BradleyThompson>
but, I moved out, TNG came and went, and they'd never seen DS9
when I told them we'd sold a story. It think Ruels of Engagement
was the first DS9 they saw.
<BradleyThompson> Yes. I had to explain stuff.
<BradleyThompson> I don't think they're following the arc
of the show. My nephew however, loves it.
<BradleyThompson> I let him do the explaining.
<BradleyThompson> The weird thing was discovering how much

<SteveKrutzler> I would like to thank Bradley Thompson for
taking the time out of his Tuesday night schedule to participate
in his FIRST ever Internet chat! We all appreciate it when those
who make it happen week in and week out come to interact with the
fans.
<SteveKrutzler> And I would also like to thank all the fans
who came out tonight, and especially those who stuck it to the
end!
<StevePerry> Thanks for coming dude! I hope The Reckoning
rocks! The preview looks good
<SteveKrutzler> Bradley, you're second only to Ira himself,
pushing the 2 hour mark right about.... now
<SteveKrutzler> We all wish you the
best of luck with Season 7, and hope you'll stop by and chat
again sometime next season!
<StevePerry> As I always say, thanks for hanging out with
us nerds!
<BradleyThompson>
Much oblidged. Glad to be of service. It's a kick to write
something like this, and see such a wonderful response.
<BradleyThompson> I
guess that says it all. Thanks for watching. It keeps me
employed.
